Possible Update Problem[edit]

Maybe existed before: Check out the NPC Kear - His race is displayed oddly, but I don't know what the proper syntax to show 2 races. — previous unsignedIcon tooltip.pngPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by Ves123 ( c |d| r| b) at 15:19, October 30, 2015 (UTC)

Item pics/descriptions[edit]

Since the update, item pics are falling off the right edge of the screen, both the pics and the descriptions. The pages themselves are fine, it's just the pics that extend beyond the edge (also beyond the edge of the border of the green background of the item pages). Dunno if this is new or just something I've noticed since losing the toolbar on the right *g* I'm in whatever the default style is, on a monitor with 1440x900 resolution. No idea what's going on with that signature, but... yeah. Here're a couple of pics of what's happening. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/63l0ltw3pn3c13f/AAAO2AcV7_5-3hC3pqvHbMyja?dl=0 LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 02:24, October 30, 2015 (EDT)

  • It was actually doing that before the upgrade. It is on my radar despite currently being low priority for me. Thanks for the reminder here on my talk page though. :) ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 18:43, October 30, 2015 (EDT)

Template "Slay" needs to be stateful within transcluding page.[edit]

Hi! The Slay template gets xp/kill wrong, because the first argument is the cumulative number of kills since 0, whereas the XP reward is for the incremental number of kills since the previous reward. E.g.

  • Slay 10 creatures in Technical 13/2015/4: 20 XP = 2 xp/kill -- correct, if this is the first Slayer reward
  • Slay 25 creatures in Technical 13/2015/4: 15 XP = 0.6 xp/kill -- should be 1 xp/kill, because you had to kill only 15 creatures to get from 10 to 25 kills.

I am assuming there is a way to set a variable before (or in) the first template transclusion, then reference it in the next one, but couldn't find it. If there is not, I guess the easiest choice is to add the previous kill count as a third parameter:

{{Slay|10|20}}
{{Slay|25|15|10}}
{{Slay|50|30|25}}

If input duplication is to be absolutely avoided, maybe something can be done with chaining templates:

{{Slay|10|10|
  {{Slay|25|15|
    {{Slay|50|30}}
  }}
}}

  • Is that really how it should work? Shouldn't it say Slay 25 creatures in Technical 13/2015/4: 35 XP = 1.4 xp/kill because you got 20XP for the first 20 kills and 15XP for the next 15 kills. To do that I'd need to reconfigure the template to work as {{ Slay | 10=20 | 25=15 | 50=25 }} or some such and use loops and variables? I'm pretty sure I could do that, just need some consensus on it before I do. ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 18:03, December 7, 2015 (EST)
    • Well, I wrote this whole thing saying how I think it should be done, re-read this, and went "Oh, that's what he just said..." So, yeah, I think the calculation should be (cumulative XP)/(total slayer) if it can be done. I could also see doing both - cumulative/total & (XP for this slayer mark)/(difference between this slayer mark and last slayer mark), so it might show up as "1.4 XP/kill (cumulative) / 1 XP/kill (since last slayer mark)", possibly in different colors? LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 18:44, December 7, 2015 (EST)
    • I don't have a strong opinion between (incremental kills)/(incremental XP) vs. (cumulative kills)/(cumulative XP) -- as long as it's not apples/oranges. In case it's helpful, though, I think it would depend on what you expect this value to be used for:
      • If I am considering whether slaying in this wilderness is worth my time, I am interested in the incremental xp/kill for my next Slayer mark. (After gaining that mark, I want to look at the next mark's ratio to see if I should stop here.)
      • If I am considering whether to buy the adventure pack, I am interested in the cumulative xp/kill and the straight cumulative XP. Starfires (ContribsMessage) 02:49, December 8, 2015 (EST)
