Naming policy

Hey, just thought I'd mention our naming policy, that I know is not currently applied all over the wiki (it's a slow process). Whenever possible, only capitalize the first letter (notable exception: proper nouns). This also applies to quest names (e.g., correct quest name should be A man named Baudry and not A Man Named Baudry. Having as much consistency as possible is required to avoid too many duplicated entries. Thanks! Tihocan 13:51, August 30, 2006 (EDT)

Hmmm. I guess I figured quest names would follow the type of grammatical rules that book titles would follow. In those cases, all words except for the minor words (a, an, the) are capitalized. I was just looking through the list of quests and almost all of them follow that sort of capitalization scheme. Do we really want to go back and change all those? Even if we just said, from now on, let's follow the naming standards, there are a whole lot of quests in there that don't follow them, already. Anyway, just thinking, that's all. It's just the way we do it. Unfortunately the 'discussions' on the wiki are sort of spread out; but there was ample discussion on the reasons and explanations of the various possible ways to work the titles - and the naming policy we have now was finally decided upon, thus we are using it. I'm not saying it's not still open for debate, but I'd rather you go read all the information scattered (unfortunately, rather widely) across the wiki before trying to reopen the discussion - also consider that although maybe many of the quests don't follow the convention, most of the rest of the wiki does. Again, I'm just stating facts - I, as steward, haven't put forth an official position on the subject really so it's all up to you people and what you decide you have the time and the drive to make work. Problem is, if we have no convention, everything becomes a pain because each time you want to make a link, you have to check how it was written first. With a convention, you can get it right on the first try 99.9% of the time. Yes, that is assuming the convention is followed on the whole site. But a Wiki works mostly from voluntary individuals who do not always know the conventions, or do not have the willingness to fix things if they were not done perfectly in the first place. So we have to deal with a lot of topics not following the naming convention, but I'd prefer if we tried to make new topics follow it. Again, I'm not asking you or anyone else to fix the old topics. Sidebar

Sorry that I missed your note; I've been quite busy (spending ~8-10hrs/day on spotMakr, pretty much). Usually ask tihocan about this kind of thing, he's pretty much Lord and King here now. One thing I can suggest; is making [[:Category:Quests]] itself the category for the rest of the quest categories; then deleting the [[:Category:Quest_groupings]] or whatever it was. The quests currently grouped by name at [[:Category:Quests]] can be moved to, say, [[:Category:Quests by Name]] or something. As for the sidebar; added the link. (Continue conversation here). There's now a new category named [[:Category:Quests by name]] and the [[:Category:Quests]] category simply links to the other categories (they're all subcategories). Now I just need help doing a couple things. First, I need someone to add the [[:Category:Quests]] category to the sidebar so they're easier to find. Second, I need someone to delete the (now unused) category [[:Category:Quest groupings]]. I don't seem to have access to do either operation. Thanks.
