Format of In development[edit]

Thanks for making it colorful. However, I hate it. It's a nightmare to edit. What I hate most:

  • Titles in tables. This prevents the editor from editing a single section.
  • The tables. Tables generally are a pain to edit. Why have more tables than needed?

Now that you highlight this as I see the benefit, hand't given it any thought - totally understand and couldn't agree more, is there no way to have both ?

Undid changes to this page and reverted back to previous format after reading the format of the page guidelines. Much better this way for community to be able to edit the page.

Sidebar layout & contents[edit]

Agonshar (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 13:35, April 2, 2014 (EDT)I think firstly that its always good to always everything on DDOwiki within an 'under revision' perspective Shoe - even the Sidebar itself, I'm just going to throw this lot out there and see where this goes to start discussions, perhaps some of its irrelevant, perhaps not - lets find out.

Page header contents could be perhaps merged with the Sidebar itself (I refer to the page title you are on and your own username/Talk?pref?Watch/Contrib/Logout) - integrating these with the sidebar navigation menu would allow more content to always be displayed when people use the wiki vertically and with ample room on the sidebar itself there doesn't seem any reason why not - one adjustment of course would be that the page you are on would need to be BOLDED somehow to highlight your location, so much more COULD go into the sidebar but another question is: should it? And leading on from that it does have the potential to hold a TON of information - think java menu's and so forth..

So here are contribs in bullet point:

1. Integrate usermenu into sidebar? (Discuss HOW/WHY/FOR/AGAINST)

2. What suggestions are there for more links into the sidebar? (Discuss HOW/WHY/FOR/AGAINST)

3. Either keep it very simplified or use it to its full potential - java drop down menus etc? (Discuss HOW/WHY/FOR/AGAINST)

Green Steel ideas[edit]

Here's my 2cp...

  • Raw ingredients of all types -> one page
  • Manufactured ingredients of all types -> one page
  • Each tier (blank/invasion/subj/dev) individual pages

That is a total of 6 basic pages. With a nicely organized TOC and some # links used throughout the series of pages to point to specific portions, I think it will look nice. Perhaps a bit lenghty in some spots, but that's where the proper organization will come into play. For page names, I vote to to keep it super simple (Green Steel - Raw Ingredients/Green Steel - Manufactured Ingredients/Green Steel - Blank Construction/Green Steel - Altar of Invasion/...) or something to that effect. I agree that some of the page names are less than descriptive in their current state and could use a nice visit. Just some ideas... -- Ague (Talk · Contribs · Blocks · Deletions · Imports · Patrols · Page Moves · Page Protects · User Merges · User Rights) 16:32, May 5, 2014 (EDT)

  • Well I've gone along that route but to accomodate all levels of experience I have expanded through to 10 pages (but only because 4 of those are sub pages) so I'm looking at 6 pages total, and BOY is this thing a tangled nasty - will be SO much easier afterwards - I do believe categorisation is key to simplifying all future editing. take Thunder Forge for example - each Tier has its own section to simply EDIT - much like this what I'm trying to achieve here but with pages instead - except this requires MUCH more due to its more complicated nature. I looked again at my intentions and what you suggested and went through the motions of seeing how it would affect everything if I simplified even further things like ingredients pages or weapons/accessories but I think it would end up with mammoth long pages as a result that wont get read as the user is presented with a huge wall of text - ugh! I re-opted for the original idea of keeping it all separate and in bite-size chunks so when someone wants something - its there and quickly digestible.Agonshar (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 16:44, May 5, 2014 (EDT)
  • Just moved onto page 2 (Green Steel Ingredients) and have changed my mind once more after reviewing what is already available on the wiki - here's what I'm looking for some help with - my table here User:Agonshar/Current with the shavarath signet stone info can do a lot more and I'm wondering who would I speak to about converting it into a sortable and integrating the first two tables on this page here Raw_Ingredient - looks like the table I have for the shavarath stones is big enough to accommodate these two into one - can anyone help as I would like to move this project along quickly as now its starting to go public. Thanks!!Agonshar (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 17:00, May 5, 2014 (EDT)

Signature[edit]

  • You can just use your preferences to make a custom signature. Based on what you have on your sandbox this would be what you need to put in the new signature field (and check the wikitext box):
Agonshar (Contributions • ) | <font color="003300">My projects</font> | <font color="663333">My ToDo list</font>
to get "Agonshar (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) | My projects | My ToDo list" as your signature. This will be followed by the date and time when using ~~~~.
--Zav (ContributionsMessage) 21:19, May 25, 2014 (EDT)
  • no no no no no... Bad idea... First, your preferences will only hold 255 characters which then becomes a major pain. Second, font tags have been deprecated for some time, and are bad... So, what you can do is put:
Agonshar (Contributions • ) | <span style="color:#030">My projects</span> | <span style="color:#663">My ToDo list</span>
on a page like User:Agonshar/custom signature.js (this will make it so only you and administrators can edit the page protecting you from vandals). Then, in your preferences you only need to put Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links and check the treat as wikicode box. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 22:03, May 25, 2014 (EDT)
  • ShoeMaker's solution is better than mine. Why a javascript page? Will it work on a regular (non javascript) page? --Zav (ContributionsMessage) 09:18, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
  • Just create a template like I did for mine. So I can make my sig as long as I want and the only code that needs to go into the custom sig block is . To see what I did in the template, just look at Template:Admin. -- Ague (Talk · Contribs · Blocks · Deletions · Imports · Patrols · Page Moves · Page Protects · User Merges · User Rights) 10:21, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
  • Yes, it would work on any page. They reason I suggested a .js page is because then no-one other than yourself and administrators can edit it. It is like having full page protection that you can edit through. You wouldn't want someone to come along and change your template to say "signed by the biggest n00b you'll ever know". ;) ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:41, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
To be a little pointy... results in -- 3l33t1st n00b (Talk · Contribs · Blocks · Deletions · Imports · Patrols · Page Moves · Page Protects · User Merges · User Rights)... Tongue ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:45, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
  • Your signature has an extra space in it at the beginning or you are adding the space yourself, so your signature is appearing in a
     box like this
sometimes. --Zav (ContributionsMessage) 21:42, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
I was trying to work out exactly why that was happening. Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links 21:43, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
It was a space I had pasted into the siganture box of my Preferences page - spotted it today - DOH!

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links 09:14, May 27, 2014 (EDT)

  • If you wanted the space in the front, the safe way to add that is with a &nbsp; or &thinsp; at the front so everyone will see a space, but the system wont think you are trying to make it look like <pre> text. — previous unsignedIcon tooltip.pngPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by Technical 13 ( c |d| r| b) at 13:42, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

Nomination for probational administrator.[edit]

Hey, I've nominated you for a 90-day probational period as an administrator based on your amount of time here and contributions. Please check it out and accept or decline the nomination! ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:01, May 30, 2014 (EDT)

Thank you Shoemaker, I'll head over there now and choose an option.

Thank you for the help setting up The Double Rainbow page[edit]

Thanks much for your help with the table on the double rainbow page. I'm sorta new here and the code I was using from the table was lifted straight from the cannith crafting page. Since the new format is much easier to add to, and i'm better at copying than creating new code, this will make adding information much easier.

--Byeshklord (ContributionsMessage) 22:21, May 30, 2014 (EDT)

  • You are most welcome for the help, I would have done it sooner but saw you were editing at the same time as me so I waited a while. Great to see a new DDOwiki editor here, so welcome to DDOwiki officially too.

The very best place to start (for setting your own pages/auto-signature) which is quick reading and quick setup is the Wiki Help Contents page. Look forward to seeing more of your edits, many editors who update things which get listed on the Recent Changes page have their own ToDO lists which usually (mine is at least) free for anyone to grab something out of get done. Just update the ToDo users talk page if you do of course.

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links 17:25, May 31, 2014 (EDT)

  • Just a parting question: the list of spells and abilities above the table I made seem sort of redundant now. Do you think I should remove it? -Byeshklord (ContributionsMessage) 00:25, June 1, 2014 (EDT)
  • I would leave the list there until most or all of the effects that have not been discontinued are incorporated into the table. Once you think all of the currently procing effects have been added to the table, feel free to remove the list. — Zav(C·T·E) 00:37, June 1, 2014 (EDT)

Having a break[edit]

Quick heads up - I'm taking a game break presently and intend to return in August time, some fairly big events happening in RL that need my focus.

I'll return shortly.

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links 09:37, July 1, 2014 (EDT)

I returned to DDO on Monday 15th September / break time: 2 months.

Wha?[edit]

I'm not sure what you were asking in the email you sent me. I didn't make any new templates for U23 patch 1 hotfix 1... I just updated our GameRevisionDates templates because the hotfix happened. As to release notes for the hotfix, I'm assuming if they have been posted, they're available on the forums, although I haven't had time to look for them yet. Some hotfixes end up not having any notes with them, and that's okay, the hotfix still happened. :) ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 16:15, October 30, 2014 (EDT)
