GIFs[edit]
Notes to self (and to whom it may concern) about how I record/generate the companion trick GIFs using free software....
If playing the game in windowed mode[edit]
- Screen record the trick using ScreenToGif.
If playing the game in full screen mode[edit]
- ScreenToGif does not seem to work for full screen mode. Then, resort to recording the tricks using Kdenlive. Make sure to capture at 60 fps.
- Split the recorded video into different video tracks in Kdenlive (one for each trick). Make to sure to remove any stand-by time from the videos, keep the trick animations only.
- Still in Kdenlive, render one trick animation video per time to mp4 by hiding all other video tracks at each time.
- Screen record the resulting video using ScreenToGif. This seems stupid, but for some reason the GIFs generated using this redundant procedure have much smaller file size than GIFs exported directly by Kdenlive.
Common steps after[edit]
- Delete any unnecessary frames from the GIF in ScreenToGif. Save the file.
- Upload the GIF to ezgif.com. Follow these steps in there:
- First, resize the GIF (resolution). I used 380px width the last few times and worked well for file size/quality trade-off.
- Optimize the GIF, in two steps:
- Optimize transparency. 2% threshold works fine in most cases.
- Lossy compression. Using the setting 30 works fine in most cases.
- Download the optimized GIF.
- It is ready to be uploaded in DDOwiki now. Yay!
