Tips and Misc

  • Those familiar with the standard approach DDO uses to allow multiple quest entry levels might be surprised to discover that this quest is, in fact, an actual quest: Sariyon Dran-dal will offer multiple versions of the quest at a variety of entry levels to allow players to pick the appropriate level for them. (Note that you'll need to be playing the level-appropriate version of the quest to actually get any Timeline Fragments at the end - if your level is more than three levels over the quest's basic entry level, you'll just get a notification informing you you're too high level to get anything.)
    • Each of these quests is counted as a separate quest for the purposes of unlocking difficulties on Heroic: non-VIPs will need to unlock Heroic Hard and Elite in the standard fashion. If you accidentally select the wrong entry level, you can abandon that version of the quest in the Quest Journal to go back and get the right one.
    • The following table lists the base XP for every version of this quest:
XP Table (Edit)
Base level Normal XP Hard XP Elite XP
1 1,006 1,097 1,188
4 2,050 2,200 2,350
8 3,058 3,232 3,406
12 3,753 3,928 4,102
16 4,300 4,468 4,636
20 15,575 16,102 16,629
24 17,684 18,211 18,738
28 19,793 20,320 20,847
32 21,902 22,429 22,956

  • You arrive to find the Chronoscope in the middle of a House Cannith construction site, but it's clear from the out that work on the protective dome has all but stalled. Sariyon has tasked you with touring the construction site to investigate a serious of mysterious accidents that he suspects amount to sabotage. Kor Kaza, the Dracolich trapped up here since the events of Killing Time, decides to chip in to accompany your investigation with some telepathic sarcasm.
  • It doesn't take an awful lot of investigation to turn up several inconsistencies, such as the suspiciously large cache of explosive barrels or the drunken Red Dragon taking a nap on one of the floating islands around the Chronoscope (don't worry about falling over the side, you'll just be teleported back to the start of the quest.) It's when you find an Inspired minion of Dal Quor drawing up a blueprint of the Chronoscope itself, though, that it becomes clear the Chamber's efforts to contain the artefact have been completely bypassed - and although killing the Inspired frees the remainder of Cannith's staff from the charm effect keeping them from working effectively, the Quori now have their hands on the design of the Chronoscope itself.
    • You can, if you wish, skip investigating either the cache of explosive barrels or the drugged Dragon, as you get two of the three needed pieces of evidence by finding and then killing the Inspired Cannith Saboteur. (Alternatively, you can find the Saboteur third and then back out of the fight, although this will leave the rest of the workers hostile.)
  • Finding evidence of Quori interference among the servants of the Chamber was a surprise, but that's nothing compared to the shock you get when you enter the Chronoscope to see a time portal already open in the center, along with two familiar faces: Nat Gann, who disappeared in the Devil invasion of Stormreach, and Nelle Gann, last seen remaining in the recent past to track down her brother after you forestalled Professor Tremas's attempt to use the Chronoscope to meddle with the past. Nat and Nelle ask you to step through the time portal to speak with them, and you emerge to find yourself in the distant past of Xen'drik, along with an unexpected face: the Dracolich Kor Kaza.
  • It becomes quickly clear that you've stumbled into the middle of some convoluted time shenanigans: Kor Kaza has been (will be?) freed from the Chronoscope's containment, and has assisted (will have assisted?) Nelle Gann in rescuing her brother from the clutches of Shavarath's Devils. You've got bigger things to worry about in the immediate future, though: Kor Kaza has brought you back to the earliest days of Xen'drik, before the fall of the ancient Cul'sir empire of the Giants, because the time boundary projected by the ancient doomsday weapon known as the Moonbreaker during the first Quori invasion means this is one of the few places time-travelling Quori can't track you.
  • With the information gathered by their Inspired spy, it appears Dal Quor will one day be able to construct their own Chronoscope, allowing them to project themselves backwards in time and interfere with events to achieve outcomes that better suit them. Kor Kaza and the Ganns have been using the existing Chronoscope, which fortunately you've at least prevented from being blown up, to combat their efforts, but can only interact with timelines they were involved in. Happily, as you've already made yourself something of a thorn in Dal Quor's side, several of the broken timelines are events you can use the Chronoscope to return to - while you may not be able to prevent the timeline from being altered, you can at least ensure the Quori agents fail in their goals. (You're not overly keen on allying yourself with Kor Kaza, but as your alternative is being left behind in the ancient past, you don't really have many other options.)
  • At this point in the quest, a timeline portal opens for you to access the first of the three altered timelines you need to fix to obtain your reward. Notably, there are six possible timelines that can spawn in this quest, but you'll only interact with three random selections in a single run, so from this point onwards only three of the following sections actually appear in your current instance.
    • Before you leave, you can ask Nelle Gann to aid you in your quest - this will give you a buff that allows you to see Quori parasites without True Seeing. While this isn't massively impactful for most of the quest, it will give you an opportunity to finish one of the possible timelines without fighting. (There is also a rest shrine by the first portal - note that you'll be coming back here later on and not every timeline contains another shrine, so you may want to wait and see if you'll need it later.)
  • Against the Demon Queen:
    • The Court of Lailat seems to be in its normal state until you clear out the Cacodemons and Efreet and reach Lailat's throne room: at that point, the nature of the Quori interference becomes clear, as Zawabi stands in the place of the Prince of Swords. You'll have to fight him, followed by Lailat herself, to gain entrance to the Dais where you would normally have duelled Lailat a second time.
    • Once you reach the Dais, Lailat is suddenly ambushed and cut down by Zawabi, who congratuates you on your victory. You can just accept this and walk away, but if you have True Seeing it's instantly obvious that Zawabi is being puppeted by a Quori. Slaying the Djinn will plunge Menechtarun into a power struggle, but it's still better than leaving it in the control of Dal Quor.
  • Frame Work:
    • There's little ambiguity about what's gone wrong in this timeline: Dorris, in her Warforged Titan form several years early, is rampaging around the Matador village killing everything in sight. You can charge in and wreck your power-crazed ally, but following the strange Iron Defender you find by the entrance will lead you to the true mastermind of this situation: an Inspired Manipulator. (Killing the Manipulator will cause Dorris to return to her senses - just after being declared the new Matador Chieftain, which might have an interesting knock-on effect on the Droaam foreign situation.)
    • This is the only available zone that contains collectable nodes. These scale by quest level as usual.
    • The Manipulator is located in the northwest of the Matador Village, near the Fisher Gate.
    • Bug: If this is your first or second timeline, killing Dorris and the Inspired Manipulator before leaving results in two timelines being completed at once.
  • Misery's Peak:
    • For whatever reason, the Quori seem particularly keen on keeping Darastrix Achthend in control of Korthos Island - perhaps in hope of eliminating you personally before you began your adventuring exploits at all. As well as meddling with events in the Grotto, they've planted an Inspired ambush in the tunnels of Misery's Peak, forcing you to send your allies to take out the Mindsunder and take on Aussircaex personally.
    • Once you've cleared out the Inspired and either skipped a trapped section of tunnel using a convenient time portal or dodged through it purely to get one up on Jeets, you find yourself on Aussircaex's side of the tunnel. Darastrix attacks once Aussircaex is down to 33% health - you can choose to focus entirely on killing him and leave Aussircaex herself alive, if you don't want to deprive yourself of an ally against Sor'jek Incanni later on.
      • Or you can kill both---It'd be poor work ethic to leave a Mind Flayer unslain in the hands of the Sahuagin menacing Korthos.
  • The Grotto:
    • It wouldn't be an Anniversary quest if you didn't end up fighting Jeets Shimis somehow - and sure enough, when you emerge into the chamber in the Grotto that once housed the Sahuagin ambush, you find no Sahuagin but are suddenly attacked by your allies! You can kill them, but it would be much better for the future of Korthos to seek out the Inspired Mind Twister, hidden somewhere in the arena, and take him out, breaking the spell making your allies believe you were a Sahuagin.
      • You can safely down two of the three heroes without failing the objective - as Jeets is a relatively unthreatening melee-only Rogue compared to the spell-slinging Cellimas and Talbron, he can safely be kited around after downing the other two while you're looking for the Mind Twister.
  • The Madness of Crowds:
    • One of the Quori has had a go at subverting your mighty Giant ally Brawnpits, but has had to settle for possessing his apparently sentient wooden club, Betty, and convincing him that it would be best if he just squashed you to prevent the Du'raskha Tul from spreading among the Giants. You can attempt to talk him down if you got Nelle's gift of sight earlier (or have True Seeing) and succeed on an average difficulty skill check (Diplomacy, Bluff or Heal) - although if you do try this, be warned that Brawnpits will swiftly be charmed by Betty and attack you anyway! Be careful as you fight him, as a total of eight elemental spirits will spawn during the fight around the room's edges - if you attacked Brawnpits straight away you don't need to kill these and can flee by the appearing portal once Brawnpits falls if needs be.
      • The option to tell Brawnpits Betty has been taken over by a Quori only activates once you actually inspect Betty (you'll need to walk right up to the club to trigger the event; walking straight to Brawnpits won't reveal the Quori's presence.) If you do not see the option to negotiate, leave the chat box using the second option and walk around Brawnpits in a close circle.
    • If you end up negotiating with Brawnpits, once he's reduced to about 10% HP, your battle is unexpectedly interrupted by an unwelcome guest - the overbearing director of House Phiarlan's next big production! You can take this opportunity to try and talk Brawnpits or the Director down with a Diplomacy check, or wait until Brawnpits becomes hostile again and fight him with the Director's help (although the Director will try to kill you afterwards, if she survives, presumably because you've just slain her star actor.) There are no consequences to failing the Director's Diplomacy check, but Brawnpits will attack if you fail his check, so talking to the Director is preferable (you can attempt her check as often as you like.)
  • Vault of Night:
    • The Laughing Knives are pretty suspicious that you've drawn them into an ambush, as their early raid into the Vault of Night has turned up not an army of Aurum agents and undead Dwarves but the minions of Queen Lailat! You'll need to succeed on some quite tricky skill checks to convince them that you haven't sold them out. (The skills required vary for each NPC: Dirge requires Intimidate or Spot, Orphne requires Spellcraft or Search, Veil requires Listen or Perform, Haywire requires Concentration or Disable Device, and Marek requires UMD or Bluff.)
    • Once you fail a skill check with any of the Laughing Knives, you'll have to fight against all the Knives you didn't manage to convince before negotiations broke down. After that, you'll need to eliminate one final wave of Lailat's minions (possibly including Zawabi again, most likely if you managed to get one or more of the Laughing Knives on your side) before you can count this timeline as completed, hopefully without depriving yourself of too many possible future allies. Killing them has no effect on any other quests in this game.
  • Once you've completed your three timelines, return through the final portal to collect your Timeline Fragments from Kor Kaza - along with an ominous warning about watching who you tell about the events you've just witnessed.
    • After claiming your treasure, Kor Kaza opens a portal back to the present. This will bring you back to the center of the Chronoscope, allowing another conversation with Sariyon - you can either tell a reassuring lie, or confess that the Quori have subverted one of the most dangerous artifacts on Eberron right under Argonessen's nose.
    • The amount of Timeline Fragments awarded per completion of the quest is determined per character, and depends on the number of levels the character has over the effective level of the quest and the difficulty the quest was completed on, as listed in the following table:
Timeline Fragments Rewarded (Edit)
Levels over quest level Normal reward Hard reward Elite reward Reaper reward
0 (at or below level) 6 8 10 12
1 4 6 8 8
2 2 4 5 6

Loot

  • Chests: 1
    • One end "chest" (doesn't exactly function as a standard chest - it's technically an NPC, so it disappears as soon as anyone interacts with it and distributes Timeline Fragments to the party. This means it can't ransack, but also means this quest contains no standard loot.)
