Dialogs[edit]

Dryden's Chamber[edit]

  • Thaddeus Graylight (over head):

End of Return to the Sanctuary[edit]

  • Thaddeus Graylight: What have you found? Have any survived?
    • You: The only witness I found turned into a Werewolf. I had to defend myself. He could not be saved.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Fitzwood? Yes, a sad tale indeed. His father was tainted by the curse during the crusades against the lycanthropes. Sired that poor soul without even knowing. It's nearly impossible to cure the curse when it's passed on through the blood like that.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: And you say he mentioned 'the Duality" before he died?
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Hmm. Here, take this. A reward for your efforts so far.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: You have your instructions.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: I will go give these grim tidings to the Archbishop, and then join you in the library.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Don't wait for me. Find that book quickly! I fear time is not on our side.
    • You: I'll meet you in library as soon as I find this book.

End of The Old Archives[edit]

  • Thaddeus Graylight: Where is Guillaume? That chill I feel in the air.... The undead are here? In our own Archives? The Archbishop must be told at once!
    • You: Guillaume was slain by the undead.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: I see. A sad day indeed. He will he mourned, when there is time.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Do you have the book?
    • You: Yes, all three parts. Here.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: This blasphemy is revolting! To claim that ... what's this? A name I know!
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Gerard Dryden! The Archbishop's long dead uncle. His signature scars these pages. There were always rumors about him. I always took them to be mere gossip. But perhaps....
  • Thaddeus Graylight: He's buried here, in the Dryden Family Tomb. This should be where you investigate next.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: It's possible that Gerard is not as rest.
    • You: I shall go at once.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: The entrance to the Dryden Family Tomb can be accessed from the main hall.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Go quickly. I will inform the Archbishop.
    • You: I shall go at once.

End of The Crypt of Gerard Dryden[edit]

  • Thaddeus Graylight: Ghouls in the Dryden family crypt? When will this madness end?
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Did you find any trace of Gerard? Either his remains, or ... as one of the undead?
    • You: We didn't find him. The Ghouls made it impossible to verify if Gerard's remains were there.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Forget this matter for the moment. Things have taken a turn for the worse.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: The undead have started to appear everywhere in the lower levels. Whatever is happening, its spreading quickly.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: The Archbishop sent a group of Templars to check on the wards, the enchantments that protect our temple against necromancy. The Paladins were overwhelmed by swarms of undead before they could make it to the wards. Most of them are now with the flame.
    • You: Am I to attempt to reach these wards?
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Yes. You'll have to pass through the Lower Cathedral. The sacred altars to our founders there have been corrupted. You'll need to re-light the flames at each shrine before you can enter the Patriarchs' Crypt, where the wards themselves lie.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Pay careful attention, for we believe Marguerite may be there.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: I suspect she may be ... involved ... somehow.
    • You: You suspect Marguerite? The Archbishop's daughter?
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Before her illness, Marguerite was privy to all the inner workings of this temple. And you can see how our careful defenses have been so easily breached.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Of course, ii's still possible that Gerard himself has returned from the dead. He would possess such knowledge as well. But as an undead, he would still need a living agent to reach the wards.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Enough speculation! Take this and proceed with all haste. We need those wards restored!
    • You: I shall go there directly

End of Endgame: Marguerite[edit]

If you let Marguerite Dryden go

  • Thaddeus Graylight: You let the girl live? Surprising, given how bloodthirsty you adventurers tend to be.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: No matter. I will deal with her soon.
    • You: Graylight! Look out! Behind you! or
    • You: Why do I feel that you're the one behind all this?
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Ha!
  • Thaddeus Graylight: You fool, the shadow within the flame has now chosen me. The girl was originally meant to be its vessel. But she has been found unworthy!
    • You: It's true, then. It was you who dropped the wards!
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Yes, yes. It was my honor to serve my master in this!
    • You: The Archbishop?

If you killed Marguerite Dryden

  • Thaddeus Graylight: Years of work and careful planning. And you, you...
  • Thaddeus Graylight: Do you have any idea what you've done?
    • You: Her death was by order of the Archbishop.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: That fool knows nothing! Nothing! Marguerite had a destiny! A destiny that would have brought true power to this place. Power to me....
    • You: Explain yourself, Graylight.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: That girl was a vessel to the divine! A bridge to the shadow, the true power behind the flame!
  • Thaddeus Graylight: She should have killed you. Your blood would have completed her transformaton.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: My master will not be pleased. But I did warn him she was not worthy of such a blessing.
    • You: The Archbishop?

Both cases:

  • Thaddeus Graylight: That fool? A mere pawn, blinded by his ambition to return to Thrane. Easily manipulated. If you hadn't turned up, his fall from grace would already be complete.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: I would named his successor, of course, once the blood had dried.
  • Thaddeus Graylight: It is most irritating how your minor victories have given that nitwit some hope. That hope dies here and now. My master has commanded it!
    • You: We'll see about that.
