Template talk:Quest chain

Update Mar, 13th 2021[edit]

Updating the template for the following reasons:

  • Adding categorization
  • Adding a row to cover any order for flagging
  • Merging 3 loops in one to better show context
    • Using a pre process block defining variables.
  • Fixing some undefined combos of missing chain name / missing quest names
    • Even without any parameters the box shows a useless but correct text ;-)

I changed the categorization to "<chain name> chain quests" so there wouldn't be a confusion with other quest categorizations. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 08:11, April 14, 2021 (EDT)

But you forgot to update all the ""Quest list"" references. And it has to match Adv. Pack categories so I took it back Corgrind (ContribsMessage) 11:43, April 14, 2021 (EDT)

I just added some text to your user talk Corgrind (ContribsMessage) 13:37, April 14, 2021 (EDT)

Planning next update[edit]

I decided to follow Faltouts idea about including a 'type' in the category name. Before I implement this I like to get some opinions about this 4 small topics:

  • categorization - arc vs. chain: There are two different wordings, "Story Arc" and "Quest chain". I tend to "arc" because many Story Arc haven't much of a chain.
  • categorization - param:chain vs. param:dab chain: At the moment cat name is based on 'chain', which is also the linked page. But there are some Story Arcs which are handled by their Adv. pack page. So either a redirect page has to be created (chain option) or there is a small chance for strange cat names if the editor does something fancy with the display name (dab chain option)
  • noorder param: I found that this is not complete, because there are several Arcs with an opening quest, then some in any order. Is it worth to implement this ?
  • While checking on lists it occured that there is no control about the effective order of the quest list related to the arc order. So comment abouts "any order" blocks in the Story Arc overview are quite useless. It may be an option to have a display variant for this template usable in overview pages
