New Template Proposal

I like the idea of the wikipedia template of Template:Backlog that allows administration C:pages to have a place to see how many pages are in each of the Administration / Hidden Categories (we could tweak it for our personal usage) and not have to visit each Category individually if there is not enough to worry about.. My only hesitation here is the fact that it uses {{PAGESINCATEGORY:categoryname}}, which is defined as an expensive Magic WordVariables marked as "[expensive]" are tracked by the software, and the number that can be included on a page is limited.. I think it should be ok to use this. I wonder how expensive it really is though. That mediawiki page says that they only refresh their category pages once a week. DDO wiki doesn't cache them for nearly that long. It's hard to say if it will slow things down too much. --Xevo 20:31, March 16, 2012 (EDT)

My concern is like Xevo's, how much would this slow things down... I mean, when you were running the bot for a while, it took about double the usual time to refresh/submit the the pages I was manually fixing. Also, I just forgot what I was going to say... Ok, I'll copy all of the source pages onto my computer and build a prototype for DDO wiki (and TORwiki too I suppose) that isn't as broken out over multiple templates. I'll post here when it is complete, and we can try it out to see if it is worth keeping.. ShoeMaker 21:04, March 16, 2012 (EDT)

what kind of pages are going to be listed on the backlog category? we only have {{help improve}}, {{wikify}} and {{unverified}} atm (maybe need desc. images kinda pages too?). its not like we are going to do {{need citation}}, {{weasel words}} and such wikipedian BS right? yoko5000 00:58, March 17, 2012 (EDT)

Absolutely not. See my first post, "each of the Administration / Hidden Categories (we could tweak it for our personal usage)." We have (that I know of atm):

• Category:Pages in need of editing (59) ⇒ Template:Help improve
• Category:Pages need editing (0) ⇒ Template:Wikify
• Category:Unverified (242) ⇒ Template:Unverified
• Category:Items without a description image (116) ⇒ (For items lacking a picture)
• Category:Needs Info-Box Pic (2) ⇒ (For crappy or outdated pictures)
• Category:Pages with invalid weapon hand (0), Category:Pages with an invalid weapon class (0), and Category:Pages with an invalid prof (0)

It would basically be a more functional replacement for Help and information wanted listing.
BTW, I used the "Expensive" Magic Word Variable" here for the (counts) as an initial testing so to speak. ShoeMaker 02:03, March 17, 2012 (EDT)
