Tar pits (heavy fire damage if you fall in)

Tips and Misc

This quest is short and fairly linear. It's full of Ogres and Elementals, mostly using fire damage – bring absorption and cold damage.
Rogues will enjoy this one – for once, the oozes scattered around don't have Tremorsense.
There are several root walls throughout the quest – despite what it may look like, the nearby monsters do not have to be killed to break them.
There are also several tar pits here (as one might expect.) These deal heavy damage if you fall in them, but there are platforms scattered around.
- The second of the two tar pits on the main path is covered in sinking platforms, making crossing it pretty challenging. If you prefer, you can head up the ramp, fight the Tar Ogre Tribe Gatekeeper for the key to the nearby locked door, and walk down another ramp on the other side.
The quest boss summons two other red-named bosses on activating – a large fire elemental and a giant Mudman adorned in dinosaur bone armor. All three must be slain to finish the quest.
The end chest is hidden behind a table in the boss room – don't miss it!

Optionals

The Ogre Tribe Gatekeeper is at the end of the tunnel section atop the wooden platform over the second tar pit.
Going east at the first intersection leads to a drop-down point into a tar pit. This room contains three orange-named skeletons collectively called the Tarbone Trio. Slaying all of them reveals a tunnel back up to the top.
The High Shaman's Consort is at the end of the east route of the three-way junction after the second tar pit.
Tablet locations:
- One inside the ooze-filled intersection at the start
- One in a corner after the first tar pit.
- One with the Gatekeeper above the second tar pit
- One with the High Shaman's Consort (see above)
- One in the boss room, on the shaman's table
On Legendary only a hidden Lever can be found near the Tar Ogre Tribe Gatekeeper (Search DC Normal 71-72) which opens a nearby wall.
- In the secret area is a Dark Secret – one of the six wild ones hidden around the Isle of Dread. There is otherwise only a collectable, although finding this Dark Secret was key to discovering the secret ending of Skeletons in the Closet.
- On heroic the existence of the hidden area also can be determined by targeting the collectable.
