Would like to update the Maps page as I have some free time over the next few days. However am unsure how to use (or rather how we should use) the NCL. Looking for an example.

  • We don't use NCL anymore - it's no longer installed on the server. We use DPL instead now. What do you want to update on what maps page? Can you link the page you want to change? I'd be happy to help you find/create a solution for what you're trying to accomplish. Smile  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 22:14, January 29, 2020 (EST)
    • All of the map pages, like Maps, no longer display the listing of maps (except the hard coded one) and I am trying to figure out what I need to do get them updated as I have some time to update them.
    • How do I make it sortable? I am assuming I need to add some sort of tag to the catagory, I am not sure and the help is not helpful.
      • My understanding is that I need to add a sort statement to the Category Tag on the individual maps.
      • With three Columns I would like to limit to one item per row (per column) if I am not using a table.  👟 10:44, February 4, 2020 (EST)
    • Yes, if I understand what you are asking, you need to define the sort key on the individual map pages - eg: Map of The Waterworks should be [[Category:Maps of Wilderness Adventure Areas|The Waterworks]] (or [[Category:Maps of Wilderness Adventure Areas|Waterworks]] if you want it sorted into the W group). I'm not sure what you're asking for on the "limit to one item per row/column" statement. {{Category listing}} simulates the "compact bullet" setting for NCL and doesn't have rows or columns per se. • If you look at the Map Page you will see it has three columns defined, the category listing creates bullet list of items, with no line breaks between the items. So one line in the column may have two and half entries or five or one it the title is long enough. Trying to figure out how to put line breaks in or build a sortable table.
        • Then you'll want to build a completely new DPL template/call for that instead of use {{ Category listing | category = Category }} (which should never be nested inside of a {{Div col}}...{{Div col end}} - which I've cleaned out). If you need help with that, let me know and we'll work up what you want it to look like here and I'll create the DPL if you need. • I created a DPL
<DynamicPageList>
category=Maps of Wilderness Adventure Areas
ordermethod=sortkey
order=ascending
offset=12
</DynamicPageList>
  • It is giving out an error is that because I have not created sortkeys for everything. It is not clear.
    • I'm not seeing an error with:
{{Div col|3}}
{{#DPL:
  | category = Maps of Wilderness Adventure Areas
  | order     = ascending
  | namespace =
}}
{{Div col end}}
Documentation for DPL can be found on:
Hope this helps.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 14:49, February 5, 2020 (EST)
    • When I attempt to use ordermethod=ANYTHING it issues an error. In your example it is using Title With no Spaces as Default.
      • Extension:DynamicPageList (DPL), version 2.3.0 : Warning: Wrong 'ordermethod' parameter: 'title'! Using default: 'categoryadd'. Help: ordermethod= categoryadd | lastedit | none.
      • I think changing the formating of my DPL fixed the problem, it not reporting the error, but not sorting.
      • How come there are only 27 of the 43 pages showing?

  • Offset is why there is only a partial list. I'd use namespace to limit it to mainspace (as I've done in my adjusted example and get rid of the offset. Why use any ordermethod? It's not needed. Sortkey is the default and the order should be defined by the sortkeys.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 18:57, February 5, 2020 (EST)
