Organization?[edit]

How do you want to organize Item/Legendary Item? Christopher G Lewis (ContribsMessage) 12:55, December 8, 2017 (EST)

  • Imho at this point it's enough to simply match items (heroic/legendary) to quests. -- Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 13:50, December 8, 2017 (EST)

Got pics, what now?[edit]

I have a few of the items with missing pages and could provide pictures. How should I do it? -- Ziodory (ContribsMessage) 11:29, December 11, 2017 (EST)

Here are some tips:

  • Item description screenshots look best when 420 pixel wide.
  • The proper name is "Exact name of the item.png". Ideal format is png.
  • On the left side of the wiki, expand Page Toolbox, then click Upload file. Select your file using Browse button. Under licensing, specify Screenshot from Dungeons and Dragons Online. Then click Upload.
  • Then you can start creating item pages. If you are not interested in doing that right now, at least click the red link to create the new article, copy the name of the image and save it. Someone else can then continue from there.
  • If you feel like creating the whole article, ideally copy source of a similar item page and go from that. Most of the things are not too hard to figure out. Some are confusing but don't worry about it. Simply save it as good as you can - other editors can fix stuff later if needed.
  • There's also the DDO Discord channel where you can occasionally find help. Good luck. -- Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 12:42, December 11, 2017 (EST)

EDIT: looking at your first picture, ideally: don't resize the picture. That makes stuff hard to read. The ornaments around the item are not important, you can chop them away. Ideally have pics 420 px wide. --Cru121 ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Thanks! Yes, I saw that the size of the pic wasn't good, but I wasn't sure how to get it under 300kb while keeping the pixels up. Apparently, saving in jpg rather than png did the trick. Ps: should I tick minor edit if posting a message like this on the discussion page? I'm kinda new at this^^ -- Ziodory (ContribsMessage) 16:46, December 11, 2017 (EST)

  • Another option is to reduce color depth in png. If you're interested, here's how I prepare item description pics: User:Cru121#Tips_for_editing_item_description_screen_shots. It's nothing ground breaking and probably confusing for all readers except me. But it has some tips, such as how to remove the bits of UI left in the background in favor of whitespace, or how to decrease color depths of images in png format to reduce their size.-- Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 00:29, December 12, 2017 (EST)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Okay, so... Ideally, you should create the Item: page first and set |pic={{SUBST:PAGENAMEE}} shown.png and |picdesc={{SUBST:PAGENAMEE}}.png. You can then click on the red links created on the Item: page to upload your image to the correct place. As far as creating images goes, you should crop to 420px wide or wider (someone can always go back and trim it for you, it's harder to add width [kind of]). You should never stretch or resize the image if you don't have to. Don't worry about the 300KB "large image size" warning, just keep it under the 2MB file size limit. Greater Dispelling[edit]

Removed the Greater Dispelling effect from the description of Divinity. It does not have this even though Sanctity, which is virtually identical, does. — previous unsignedPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by Arkat ( c |d| r| b) at 15:33, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

  • This limit means that when the templates are being expanded to give the final result, the final result size is too big. I don't know how this size is calculated, but it's obvious that the number of the enchantment templates is too large. Each template has a 2000-4000 post-expand include size. Even the tiny Diplomacy +12Icon tooltip.pngDiplomacy +12: Passive: +12 Competence bonus to the Diplomacy skill. has about 2000 characters... According to Wikipedia:
When a template returns some generated or displayed text, every character counts in the post-expand include size. Also, text returned by a #if or #switch parser function counts double; for example, the 4-letter string "ABCD" returned from a #ifeq function would count as 8 letters (8 bytes). When displayed by a #if also around a nested #switch, each character counts triple, and so "ABCD" would count as 12 letters..
So, all those templates are generating huge outputs. I don't know the best way to deal with this. Perhaps the templates need to be adjusted? Faltout (ContribsMessage) 06:46, March 30, 2018 (EDT)
  • This issue has been fixed for now. The biggest problem seems to be that there are multiple listings for the same item. The page should be redone in a way so that all items are listed only once and drop location(s) are noted on the end of the line. I'll start working on that in a couple days, I need to get some exams done before I can take the time to work on a project of this size. Anyone else is welcome to feel free to work on it if they wish. I'd suggest rebuilding the page by copy/pasting each item to Update 37 named items/sandbox and when that's done simply performing a history merge on it.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 16:20, April 4, 2018 (EDT)
