Talk:Properly create an item page

Forums: Index > Help desk > Properly create an item page

I've created a few Named Item pages recently to aid with the effort to expand the wiki to include Update 38 items. Two things:

  1. The pages don't seem to get categorized (I think that's what it's called). At the bottom of the page, it doesn't specify it's under any categories like other items do.
    • Is this something the system does automatically after a period of time?
  2. One of the pages I created, Tech 13 moved it from [The Page Name] to [The Page Name] citing Proper namespace. Is this something I should/can do when I create a new item page? If so, how?

The answer to both questions is that items have their own namespace (called "Item:"). The namespace of a page is what comes before the first ':' in the URL. For example, this page has the URL https://ddowiki.com/page/Talk:Properly_create_an_item_page. This "Talk:" in front of the page name shows that this page is under the namespace "Talk". (Note: when being redirected, neither the URL, nor the page name shows the "Item:" namespace. So, to find out the namespace, you need to click on the "Page" link left of the "Discussion" link to load the correct URL.)
To correctly create an item, you need to create the page "Item:<name of the item>". This will categorize the page as well.

Awesome! Thanks for the clear explanation. Clemeit (ContribsMessage) 23:25, April 12, 2018 (EDT)
