Talk:Monster Information/All

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

I'm starting a monster information project, inspired by the Traps and Locks project. I will appreciate all the help I can get since this is not a one man project given the huge amount of work needed to complete it and I'm open to questions, suggestions and critique. by Mjoll 02:49, September 15, 2011 (EDT)

looks good, good luck on this project. should be able to replace DDO information project/Monsters now. this post from MrCow might be helpful. maybe its obsolete though. → yoko5000 06:20, September 19, 2011 (EDT)

Thanks, I have MrCow's list but I'm using it as a last resort since it is indeed obsolete in some places and I like to verify things myself. by Mjoll 06:40, September 19, 2011 (EDT)

Transcluding Tables[edit]

I want to start making this project public by using a template or syntax that selects this or that table from the source page of the project and copies it to the quest page but I can't get it to work. This is what I tried (I'm using the Cannith Crystal table as an example):

Copy/paste the table manually.

It works (only if pasted outside the Quest template) but it's far from being the best solution. If I do this I will have to manually edit the table from the quest page each time I edit the source table from the main page of the project and vice versa.

{{:Monster Information/1}}

Obviously it transcludes all tables for level 1 quests and it's not the effect I want.

{{:Monster_Information/1#Cannith_Crystal_.28The.29}}

Same effect as above because the wiki doesn't know where the part I want transcluded starts and where it ends.

<onlyinclude>{{#ifeq:{{{transcludesection|001}}}|001|... insert section to be transcluded here ...}}</onlyinclude> on the source page followed by {{:Monster_Information/1|transcludesection=001}} on the target page, where 001 is a code unique for each section that needs to be transcluded.

Works perfectly for everything but tables which are not ported over at all.

So, someone good with templates knows how to get to the bottom of this problem? You can find some reference on partial transclusion here:

Page Size[edit]

Post-expand include size: 1299720/2097152 bytes (1.25/2 MB) is pushing the limit.. The size of this page needs to be reduced. I've seen the effects of a page this large (A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.) and (< !-- Served in 16.602 secs. -->). I'm recommending Xevo (Contribs • Message) cut back the max Post-expand include size to 1048576 bytes (1MB) and we'll see how that works.. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 07:17, April 8, 2012 (EDT) The /All page contains loads of duplicate data, i guess that comes from using those transcluded tables. For the /All page i find the separation into quests disfunctional. Came to this page to help me decide what savant i want my sorc to be but getting a good overview of all monsters that are immune to something is not as easy as it could be with all monsters in one sortable table (and without duplicates). Same thing would hold for people how come here looking for monsters of certain type they missed for monster manual.

Other than that great set of pages, keep up the good work :) ~~Zzelly The purpose for the /all page is just that, to gather all the quest data on one page, which helps me search and find similar entries - I'm the one keeping this database up to date - and doesn't have much use for other users. The database was created before the introduction of the monster manual so the two are barely (if at all) compatible.

I can suggest other pages that will meet your needs:

Thanks Mjoll, i came to the wrong page than :s For the mm i found this site http://ddocrafting.info/index.php?p=monsterManual# (also has info about greensteel crafting) ~~Zzelly
