Spanning and Anchors[edit]

Now that I can see what you wanted to do with it exactly.. It looks messy and hard to read.. Would be better if you did rowspans for column 1 & 2 imho.. That is a very easy thing to do if you are interested. We can also modify the css to look better if you wish.. Doing a separate table for each effect looks messy too. Would look better imo to make a single solid table and just insert "Header" looking rows as separators in between each effect. Let me make up a quick separator template and I'll post an example below momentarily. ShoeMaker 14:55, March 24, 2012 (EDT)

Test table removed to save space. See history if table needed.
ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 08:45, April 8, 2012 (EDT)

So what you are suggesting is a single gargantuan table. The problem is that I want to add a ToC to the page for ease of navigation, is there a way to place (hidden) headers inside this table so I can link to a specific section of the table? by Mjoll 15:17, March 24, 2012 (EDT)

Yes, there is, I've seen it someplace, I'll just need to re-research how to do it. Tongue

Edit: [[Talk:Item_Enchantments#Spot_(Competence)|test]] (← removed link to table that is only available on history page) ShoeMaker 15:26, March 24, 2012 (EDT)

You had any luck with the anchors Tech? by Mjoll 04:28, March 25, 2012 (EDT)

Page Size[edit]

While not as bad of an offender as Monster Information/All, this page at Post-expand include size: 838629/2097152 bytes (819kB) still takes <!-- Served in 13.760 secs. --> to load.. However, at this size I do not get the unresponsive script error message. I personally would like to see load times of <10 secs. on all pages.. (These pages will not load on handhelds at all don't forget, handhelds seem to have closer to a 250kB limit, well at least mine does.) ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 08:45, April 8, 2012 (EDT)

Yea it's a bit nuts. Personally I'd say anything over 5 seconds load is just wrong. and that 14 seconds is how long the uberfast ddowiki server takes to load it.. Average users connection? heh.. ages.

But I think he realises it.. Probably doin same as his last project and lumping it all together at first, then will cut it up later when more complete.

would just avoid linking it from any major areas until it's cut down to a size that people without beast computers and fiberop connections can handle heh.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 09:14, April 8, 2012 (EDT)

And it will get worse... The bad news is that the page size will be at least double what it is now when it's finished (256 KB in .txt form now and I still have to add aprox. half of the end reward items, to add all epic, challenge and cove items and to add links). The good news... there aren't any.

My original intention was to have all the info on one page but I'll probably have to spread it over 3 or 6 pages with a link to the whole project accompanied by a 'do you feel lucky?' warning like Shade suggested for the other project. The lid will be kept on the project and it won't be made public until it's 100% done so there will be no linking to it until then. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 05:42, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

Naming policy[edit]

Um the pagename is a clear violation of the policy (It's using title case, and we use standard english casing for non-ingame subjects). And I cannot find any valid reason you did this. You said it was "Sublime", but thats an very unfair assumption and even if it was true - not at all a valid reason to violate the policy.

So why did you move it back Mjoll? Same goes for your Monster information pages.

Actions like this just make it seem like you don't even really care about page naming uniformity, yet you vote strongly in favor against how you want your pages named. It's very perplexing.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 16:41, April 25, 2012 (EDT)
Apparently, Sir Shade, you missed the memo that he posted at the top of the page warning people that any change would be overwritten...

Warning: Do not edit this page if you want to fix something, use the talk page instead. I am overwriting the entire content of the page when I'm posting a new version of the project so edits made by someone else will be lost. by Mjoll 07:26, March 28, 2012 (EDT)

I'm sure when he has completed his project, he will move it accordingly to conform with which-ever naming policy is mutually agreed upon. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 17:15, April 25, 2012 (EDT)

Like I hinted on the other talk page Shade, I didn't like the context of how and when you moved it.

Equally perplexing is your insistence to change one letter from a 2 words long page name (that is still in beta phase, far from being complete, not 'opened' to the public and that is linked to from just 2 pages, a redirect page and a talk page). Page name that until my post from yesterday on that other talk page you didn't notice it was violating the naming policy, nor did you notice it when you rightfully moved it from Item Enhancements to Item Enchantments. [[1]]. But I'll change the page name in a few days to restore peace & happiness on the world and on the wiki and to please 99.99% of the wiki users that don't know about its existence. And I'll do the same for the other project page. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 17:47, April 25, 2012 (EDT)

Re:Tech 13 Mjoll, nor anyone else cannot violate the naming policy at will because he posted a comment at the top of his page. That comment also does not exist in the monster information page, which happens to be linked on hundreds of other pages.

If he wishes, he may move the project under his username as User:Mjoll/Item Enchantments. As pages under your username are considerered "personal pages" which other users are discouraged from editing. If it was there, I would not edit it. Tho imo I've never edited either-way, moving it is a slightly different process.

You may not demand others users not to edit any pages that are not stored outside of your userpage. It's against wikiquette and site policy. He can ask if he wants, but demanding it or violating the policies because he asked - no.

All I'm trying to do here is enforce the site's policy's, as if they are not enforced, there is no point to having them. Nothing more, nothing less.

RE: passive-aggressive insult including in Tech13s edit summary. Keep trying, but you can not move me.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 17:59, April 25, 2012 (EDT)

Re: Mjoll: Violating the sites policies because you do not "like" the context, is not a valid reason to violate them. I will be moving the page(s) back now. You may either then move it to your userspace and name it as you like, accept it, or perhaps vote for changes to the naming policy so you may keep it how like (if the vote passes).

RE: Not 'opened' to the public. Incorrect.

  • This page is 100% viewable by everyone, and uses a VERY commonly used in-game term, thus will be found, and examined.
  • The monster information page - It not only viewable by everyone, but linked on hundreds of pages.. Hardly a page where 99.9% of users don't know of it's existence.

RE: Happiness. That's not what this is about. I'm perfectly content and hope you are as well. My goal here is to enforce the site policies, as if they are not enforced, people will ignore them and they will mean nothing. Considering how often a certain other administrator (not yourself) has been violating the policies lately, I feel it's important to be vigilant right now, no matter how few characters are out of place.

I hold zero ill-will towards you. Quite the opposite - I think this is an excellent project you are working on. However my feelings towards how good it is, are irrelevant to my task of enforcing the sites policies.

Lowercase after the slash[edit]

There is no defined policy decide on weather or not the title after a slashing for sub pages should be capitilized. I left it in as I think it should be, as Thats essentially the title of the page, where the pre slash title was the title of it's home.

Anyways it should be defined, I don't have much opinion either way as these are rare-pages so it won't have a large impact overall. Given Mjoll did most of the work on them, I think he should have final say on if he wants the post slash first letter upper-cased or not. Let us know what you prefer.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 18:12, April 25, 2012 (EDT)
We have defined that the wiki now uses sentence case; therefore, anything that is not a proper name or the first letter of a sentence should be lower case. We can't say we are going to use sentence case for some pages and whatever we want for others. Needs to be uniform. My two-cents. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 18:24, April 25, 2012 (EDT)

Updating Content[edit]

Is the content of this list(s) updated automatically or do all new items have to be added manually every time new items come/change? PCrazee (ContributionsMessage) 07:44, July 10, 2012 (EDT)

There is no page on this wiki that is currently automatically updated. The message to what was referred to was a message posted by Mjoll (Contribs • Message) stating that he was working on the page off-line on his text editor (assuming he uses Notepad++ like the lot of use senior editors) and he was C&P his edits in with no regards for any manual edits made at the time. This was while he was first creating the page and I am uncertain if he considers that process complete and if this any longer applies... I will C&P this message to his talk page as a request for him to come and inform us either way. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 09:52, July 10, 2012 (EDT)

U14 update[edit]

So I have been working on updating the project to reflect the U14 changes/additions.

Done so far:

  • Effects for almost all the new items from Update 14 named items. If an item is not listed there then it flew below my radar and I didn't catch it.
  • The new item sets.
  • New effects for Tor armor.
  • Cormyrian green dragon armor + Cormyrian red dragon armor

Not done yet:

To do:

  • Spell power numbers for everything including clickies.
  • New AC and DR numbers for all shields, I see Bladedge has updated many of them.
  • Move AC (Dodge) to new category Dodge.
  • Get numbers for Proof Against Poison items. There is also the Poison Save category and I'm not yet sure what to do with it. Maybe move 'Proof against Poison' to 'Poison Save'.

Oddities found:

Deleting[edit]

agreed, especially since this can never be up to date due to the sheer number of enhancments in the game Corgrind (ContribsMessage) 15:33, January 9, 2023 (EST)

  • Oppose This could be redone to use DPL and automatically maintain itself. I don't see justification for flat out deletion - although I would be okay with tagging it is {{Update}} or worst case {{History}}  👟 ShoeMaker ( Talk • Contribs • Patrol • Moves • B • D • I • PP • UM • UR ) 👟 12:58, February 3, 2023 (EST)
    • Since we're actually discussing things now, Support. As I explained in my summary, these pages are redundant to the DPL categories now and the whole thing is hideously out of date - plus, nothing links to it. PurpleSerpent (ContribsMessage) 14:08, February 3, 2023 (EST)
      • It still survives. How? Why won't this Page Group die, just kill it, send it to Mabar. I gave it the Mark of Death ages ago, it must die. Bladedge (ContribsMessage) 02:47, November 18, 2023 (EST)
