There were a few times when I turned back and saw a Sahuagin behind me from a medium distance, of course going to flank me. The monster stops and after less than a couple of seconds he gets a gold coin above its head (not a coin, but a yellow circle which quite resemble one) and start getting away, without I doing anything more than staring at it. It happened just with my wizard and my sorcerer.

  • Is this some kind of passive fear?
  • The monster checked my level which is above its CR and decided he'd better run? (doesn't make sense, but there are developers too)
  • Or a specific trait of sahuagins?

There were no monsters around so I think they it wasn't going to ask for help. It happened just when my mages were very low leveled, they didn't have any necromantic spell or specific gear, the only "control" spell they had was Charm Person but the enemy wasn't humanoid. It was a sahuagin.→ Nayus 21:11, July 25, 2011 (EDT)

they're just bouncing back to their original location cuz they're out of their "AI range". it has nothing to do with your character's ability/equipment. dont know whats the proper term for this kind of behavior but happens a lot on wilderness areas. my guess is that this is to prevent instance lag caused by monster AI. has been like this since looong before the Dungeon Alert was implemented.→ yoko5000 22:44, July 25, 2011 (EDT)

OH! He is talking about the white hexagon over a "whited out" monster's head. When he said coin, I thought he was referring to something similar to the LFG coin.. "Whiting out" Hexagon makes much more sense.. Do be advised though, there are some quests where mobs do not "rubber band" back; as well as, some where this is used as a strategy to defeat the quest... ShoeMaker 10:12, July 26, 2011 (EDT)

Thank you Yoko, so they were out of range, it happens on almost all games, if not, people would lure monster in order to kill or harass others (though DDO have instances, I think it's to avoid ppl luring monsters to kill a group of monsters more easily). "Shoemaker//Tech" - Whatcha talking about? I said it looked like a coin, I'd be grateful if you told me where a coin is similar to a hexagon Nayus 12:26, July 26, 2011 (EDT)

Think the symbol your refering to the is the same one you see for intimidate/diplomacy? That happens when a monster can't figure out how to reach its intended target, and recalculates its target. Often happens due to pathing bugs where the mob thinks it can no longer reach you can gives up. The white hexagon happens when a monaster leashes, it looks quite a bit different, and the monster also becomes untargetable and returns to its spawn point. It only happens in a few select quests/adventure areas. Shade 12:46, July 26, 2011 (EDT)

The other possibility would be if a melee was successfully getting a Sunder attempt off... There are many other "coin shaped" icons hard to tell, too bad you didn't get a screen shot with ctrl-p we could give you a more definitive answer then... ShoeMaker 14:44, July 26, 2011 (EDT)
