Talk:Getting enough essences

Cleric L11, F2P, first time through the game. Been crafting for a while, and got up about 30 levels in it with a lot of shard making. However, I'm finding it rarely useful! One or two nice items like proof of poison belt and blindness ward, but other than that, tend to find that I am getting much better loot from chests and quest rewards. For example, been working on making a 15% striding boot - which isn't exactly top level - but has taken forever. The main problem is supply of essences in order to churn the shards in order to get up the levels. You need loads of them, and supply through quests is fairly meagre. I buy the odd bargain off the auction house, but prices tend to be high, and I'm also deconstructing loot which means I don't have masses of cash. I'm not moaning, love the game, but just wondered if I am missing something. Inclined to give up on crafting. Any thoughts?

Crafting is particularly useful if you have shared bank and multiple characters; your crafter can make great gear for low level characters. Don't rely on gearing your first character via crafting, it is improbable that you gather enough plat/essences to level up crafting to sufficient levels before reaching character lvl 20. Don't give up on crafting; simply keep collecting essences, deconstruct cheaper loot and sell more expensive stuff (usually weapons).

If you're a melee cleric, even lvl 30ish can make solid end-game boss beaters (+4 holy outsider bane). Blindness ward of battle skill +2 is also pretty decent goggles. Superior ardor clickies and superior brilliance V clickies. Efficient empower healing and healing lore are also a great choice for crafting.

1st time through the game then maybe Cannith Crafting is not for you. this is a huge plat sink mechanic and players utilize this system for their twink items mostly. it can be very helpful with minimum level reduction recipes (Bound Shard of Masterful Craftsmanship I, requires House Cannith favor), with that, you can get like +6 stat items at level 9, whereas +6 stat random loot can only be found as level 13+ and so on.

uh maybe this is not WAI and can kinda go into "big E" category info, but if you have enough The Free Agents favor, go to their vendor and get hell a lot of Crude Vials (they are cheap). they also are considered ingredient that can fit into Cannith Crafting device, so you can make +6/+7/whatever Shard of Potentials with them to earn fair amount of crafting XP. and that is in every school. that should help a bit and save you Cannith Essenses.

Crafting is a wondrous tool... If you have multiple characters and a shared bank account, one crafter will do all of your characters a ton of good. You can create better items than you can find wasting less slots (because you can put what you want in each slot) than you can do with random loot. This become ESPECIALLY useful when you are in a high enough level guild to give you medium guild slots or higher. This also allows you to create a top of the line twinkIcon tooltip.pngSecond one above where "U" section starts. TRed. The trick is to plan out how you create shards to maximize the number of shards produced for the best XP for the least essences. Courtney d'Cannith offers a basic tutorial on how to do this (I'll need to look up where that tutorial is again). A popular method for using the Cannith Crafting system to make cash, is to create unbound items that may be highly desired (Blindness immunity goggle of secret door detection with a sm/med/lrg guild slot comes to mind as being worth 30/50/100K pp on the AH and is fairly inexpensive to make) Wink ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 19:27, May 17, 2012 (EDT)
I found your link -- Crafting with…Courtney! Episode 32: “I see you like XP!” -- An easy to navigate list of all of the "Crafting with... Courtney!" episodes can be found here. I hope this helps. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 22:28, May 17, 2012 (EDT)
