DDO Hoaxes[edit]

Some of the regular "drama loving" residents at the 'DDO Parody forum' don't look as if they had the sense to keep tight-lipped. They have publicly explained their views in the past day about the likely "origin" of some of those terms (originally in this article). Plus gloated about their recent packet injection exploits for producing counterfeit: Experience Stones, etc. Therefore helping inform people that were "less familiar" with that forum's fauna and terminology. Plus likely also for the benefit of those people that are "a little slow on the uptake", etc.

  • Aside: Passingthru, you claimed to have participated in some form of "editing wars" elsewhere. Maybe your views and actions have been tainted by those past experiences? The additional edit comments you made seem to confirm you became aware; you had misunderstandings about as why I was marking the page for review. I'm honestly a little surprised you hadn't already figured out what those specific names and 'forum titles' (and the possibly also word "Grand") strongly correlated to by: 6th September 2020.

The obstruction was: it involves some form of ongoing "Internet Hoax", the Article also referenced and made (possibly false) accusations regarding specific players (personal sensitive data). Interestingly it appeared to mention a certain past malware incident (none DDO related that incidentally also involved counterfeiting).

I have no problem with the mention of "DDO hoaxes" so long are they are clearly marked and categorised as such, for example in the title from the beginning. Albeit spreading false rumours, i.e. publicly shaming players specifically by name (without their knowledge or consent) is a different matter. The original article certainly included individual player names and some dubious content. It certainly needs a clean-up or recategorising. Every person that you meet knows something you don't; learn from them.

  • There have been multiple instances of this scam?/prank? showing up again on multiple servers during November of 2022, and posts about it on some discord servers. Read repeated posts on ddo Discord and EPICNPC.com promoting whatever this is for Wayfinder and Orien last week and then personally witnessed in game tells, LFM ads, and a toon running around passing out what I assume are duped goods on Thelanis the evening of Novomeber 27th 2022. Actors bragged more of the same every week rest of the year, and worryingly most players didn't seem to know it was non SSG and against COC so posting info here so hopefully a full time editor will put it where it belongs. Sorry if wrong spot.
