Talk:Bearded Devil

From DDO wiki

Let's keep both Bearded Devil and Barbazu entries without redirects but with some crosslinking, I would be in favor of removing the Barbazu entry but it's best to keep both, some people got used to one name, some to another.

On one hand you have Barbazu in Amrath.

On the other hand we have the WotC site and half a dozen other big sites/wikis calling them Bearded Devil (Barbazu), we have Vale - one of the most popular packs and the one you run before running Amrath quests - calling them Bearded Devils, we have the DDO wiki entry for them using Bearded Devils everywhere, we have the players calling them Devils (in Chrono, in VoD, etc), we have the summoned version called Bearded Devil and a quick search on the forums shows that bearded is more used than barbazu. by Mjoll 07:34, September 18, 2011 (EDT)

Yea we can have both, as the game uses both. But theres not much point in have 2 identical entires since the game versions vary slighty, if only in CR/basic stats. EG: Weapons Shipment calls them Barbazu, while yea the Vale and most quests in that pack call them Bearded Devils, they are slightly different monsters as there different CRs.

I went with Barbazu because thats primary what the books uses - the devil language name. I don't own many D&D books but I did buy the fiedish codex ones as I was REALLY into the game circa module 6 so I wanted to know everything I could know about these enemies that were coming to the game... And yea I learned they all, or well most, had 2 names -- Common name, and Devil-language name. Devil name is the "real" one because for many, they dont have a re-named common name. Like Orthons, They are always orthons.

Lots have a common name tho:
EG:
Bezikira = Hellcat
Barbazu = Bearded Devil
Cornugon = Horned Devil

The game often uses both.. Theres both Bezikiras and hellcats, and both bearded devils and barbazu. Guess it depends on the programmers moods heh. And since all horned devils are currently named, we can only guess what theyd call the generic ones.

Only one that is consistant is orthon is always orthon in ddo (and in the books actauly, no common name), i went with the devil-language name.

We should update the bearded entry with more accurate CRs at least tho to distinguish the entries. Think the lowbie ones in chrono/devils assault are always "bearded" while the higher lvl ones in wep shipment and couple other places are "barbazu", but gota verify that.

Summoned Bearded Devil in Land of Barovia[edit]

There are Summoned Bearded Devils walking around the Land of Barovia. Whoever summoned them is nowhere in sight, they are just random wandering monsters. Do they get a new monster page for the new name, or do they tag into this monster entry in some way? meander (ContribsMessage) 01:13, October 28, 2018 (EDT)
