Description: The Darklord of Barovia, Strahd von Zarovich serves as the chief antagonist of DDO's third expansion, Mists of Ravenloft.

Strahd's tale is one of tragedy and death - all of which, though he may refuse to admit it, ultimately arose from his own actions. Strahd became infatuated with a Barovian local, Tatyana, who was betrothed to his brother Sergei. After Tatyana rebuffed him, the jealous Count struck a dark pact with a mysterious being known only as the Vampyr imprisoned in a sarcophagus in the Amber Temple. On the night of Sergei's and Tatyana's wedding, Strahd completed his transformation into a Vampire by murdering his own brother. Tatyana, distraught, threw herself from the spires of Castle Ravenloft. As Strahd slaughtered his way through the castle's guard, the Dark Powers descended on Barovia and claimed it as the first Dark Domain.

Strahd now rules over the domain of Barovia, which itself is now shrouded in a pall of eternal night. Periodically, Tatyana's soul is reincarnated into another Barovian, and Strahd weaponises his control of the land to claim the reincarnation for himself - only for them to slip through his grasp.

Notes: Strahd appears as an NPC in An Invitation to Dinner and Sealed in Amber. His other appearances are as an optional quest boss in Sunrise (see here) and a raid boss in The Curse of Strahd (see here).
