Tips and Misc
- The looming tower of Schloss Mordenheim has cast a shadow over your steps ever since your arrival in Lamordia – but now the time has come for you and Elise to infiltrate Doctor Mordenheim's laboratory and bring an end to the endless winter her bargain with the Dark Powers has cast over Ludendorf. It is immediately obvious on your arrival, however, that this might be more complicated than expected, as the central elevator leading to the castle's tower has been shut down, leaving you no way to reach the upper levels. You'll need to find and manually restart the four power plants around the castle before you can go anywhere.
- You can't help but notice a handwritten note on the elevator, written to Doctor Viktra Mordenheim and signed "Your Benefactor". You have to wonder who this figure is, although the implication seems to be the figure is directly connected to the Dark Powers in some way – and might, possibly, be the same figure that appeared before the leaders of Silith-tar in the backstory of Den of Vipers in the guise of the mistwalker Asptah.
- With all access to the North Wing shut off, you're left only one way to go – south, into the basement. On the way you'll need to use two rune wheels to open a locked door – the combination appears to be fixed (Red Diamond for the Blue Wheel, Blue Diamond for the Red Wheel.)
- The required section of the basement is pretty straightforward – clear out the golems, interact with the lever by the elevator, then take the elevator up to the foyer - but you might be able to find a green key in a nearby torture chamber with a decent Search skill. This unlocks a door to the abandoned Northern section, which is overrun by Gremishkas, including red-named optional boss Potion Paw.
- Back on the ground floor, you'll need to head Northwest through the Security Room, picking your way through the sight cones of Sentinel Constructs. Be careful here, as activating the constructs will unleash orange-named Flesh Golems to attack you. Once on the other side of a sealed door, you'll need to kill all the flesh golems in that room to unlock a lever opening a door to the Northern staircase. (If the golems you need to kill refuse to spawn, go back and kill any remaining Sentinel Constructs.)
- Much of the experiment floor is sealed off to you – you'll need to head to the unlocked room to the west, where you are attacked by one of Mordenheim's most terrible creations: the brain of Baron Rudolph von Aubrecker, fused to a monstrous Grick! This ghastly fusion has clearly had a terrible effect on the Baron's mind, as he barely seems to recognise his surroundings and is only capable of stuttering a line from the speech he gave at his final reception dinner. Once you've slain both the Grick and the Brain in a Jar that rises from it, finally putting von Aubrecker out of his misery, you can pull the second power plant lever nearby – enabling the central elevator to take you up to the South wing of the Experiment Floor. You'll need to head back to the foyer again to ride it up.
- After pulling another lever to the South, solving a tile puzzle to the North and smashing three waves of Living Brain Prototypes, you can lay claim to the Iron Key. (Take note of a piece of paper by the green lever – this contains the solution to another puzzle slightly later on.) You can now use this key to access the stairwell to the Living Quarters.
- At the top of the Northmost room in the Living Quarters is a lights out puzzle connected to another power plant. One guaranteed solve this puzzle is to follow the solution (7 -> 4 -> 5 -> 3 -> 2 -> 4 -> 8) from the note earlier – although the solution 3 -> 4 -> 8 also works, and takes significantly less time. You can use the large reset lever by the puzzle to restart it if anything goes wrong.
- You can now head south into Elise and Viktra's abandoned bedroom, where, for some reason, she's keeping a Relentless Juggernaut – a monstrous killing machine created from the body of a mortal that swore its soul to a powerful fiend in search of vengeance. Mordenheim, with her typically shaky grasp of scientific responsibility, has received the specimen from the Ludendorf police after some sort of incident at Ludendorf Wax Museum, but as she's busy with another experiment she has stuck it in a corner hoping it will starve to death – so naturally it breaks out and escapes Schloss Mordenheim the second you walk in (the Juggernaut proceeds to return to the Wax Museum, and will later rear its ugly head as the boss of the raid Relentless.) Still, you can at least open the door to another chamber to the East, where you fight Sauer, another of Viktra's twisted experiments, and activate the final power plant – allowing the elevator to take you all the way up to Viktra's tower.
- Inside the tower, Elise makes one final attempt to talk sense into Viktra – but the Darklord of Lamordia will not be swayed from her path, and uses an experimental rune arm to freeze Elise solid before attacking you! Viktra isn't too much of a threat on her own, but will pause during the fight to unleash three experiments upon you: two orange-named Gremishkas or a Mutated Crusher from A Miner Sacrifice, a Floating Eyeball or Skin-Knit Horse, and finally the red-named Ettin Flesh Golem you initially wrecked in Ends and Means to fight you alongside her, before eventually fleeing the tower to the castle ramparts.
- Viktra Mordenheim had meant to use one of the Icy Potions of Feather Fall to enact her contingency plan to flee Schloss Mordenheim – but, in the end, she is unable to stop herself from trying to convince Elise to rejoin her one final time, allowing your reanimated ally to tackle her off the castle ramparts and detonate the sabotaged Unbreakable Heart, reuniting herself and Viktra in death. You can only hope that with its Darklord dead and the Unbreakable Heart destroyed, Lamordia may finally be freed from its endless winter and the grip of the Dark Powers – although you are going to need to figure out how to get rid of the nigh-immortal serial killer at some point...
- Poor Adam, one of Lamordia's few non-violent Flesh Golems, has followed his instructions to the letter and helpfully dug the end chest out of the snow for Doctor Mordenheim, unable to work out that she'll never be able to open it. You can choose to dispatch him now, but otherwise he wanders off into the snow, free of the Doctor's commands. Perhaps, without even realising it, Viktra Mordenheim succeeded in her goal to create life without the aid of the Dark Powers after all.
