What to Expect
- Randomly located quest items
Tips and Misc
- On your first time, this quest can be confusing to work out. However, it ends up being rather simpler than it looks.
- To start with, find two runes in the entrance hall and enter them into the wheels in the Gallery Security Room. Note also the Security Notice saying "opposites attract" – accordingly, the red wheel should be set to the value of the blue rune and the blue wheel to the red rune.
- At this point, you can attempt to pick up the Eye, only to be teleported into the plane of Daanvi. You find yourself in a courtroom, presided over by a Sphinx, who informs you that to claim the Eye, you must defeat Worthridge in a trial proving he is complicit in some form of crime. Handily, Worthridge is a complete idiot, and has left piles of incriminating evidence in full view around his house.
- To begin the trial, you must collect five of the nine pieces of evidence. There are three pieces for each possible charge.
- Charge 1: Corruption:
- Crumpled letter: either in the locked storeroom, or the second floor bedroom.
- Diploma: either in the library, or on a bookshelf in the upper floor study.
- Illusion (Barington and a judge): either in the upper floor bedroom, or the dining room.
- Charge 2: Bribery:
- Scorched Note: either in the kitchen, or the upper floor study.
- Pile of Money: either in the secret room behind the lower floor bedroom, or the secret room behind the laundry.
- Business Ledger: in the locked study.
- Charge 3: Blackmail:
- Sealed Envelope: either in the library, or on a stack of barrels in the laundry.
- Broken Device: either in the secret room behind the lower floor bedroom, or the secret room behind the laundry.
- Illusion (the Worthridge family): either in the lower floor bedroom, or Junior's locked bedroom.
- The quest contains two hidden gold keys and one hidden iron key. Two doors require a gold key – one, on the ground floor, contains a potential location of a piece of evidence and the iron key. The other, on the upper floor, contains a potential location of a piece of evidence, and a locked chest.
- One Gold Key is in the library, the other in the second floor bedroom.
- The Iron Key is in the locked study.
- About halfway through the quest, you unlock the Elevator. This will take you back to Court, if you have collected enough pieces of evidence. Note that if you're after full completion, there is no door back and the quest is under a Dimensional Anchor, so you can't go back to get the remaining pieces of evidence if you missed any.
- Once you have your five pieces of evidence, head up to the courtroom and prepare for your trial. There are three charges you can attempt to nail Barington for; however, doing all three can get long and tedious, so unless you're specifically after the "all charges" optional, it's advisable to do only one. Bug: At the moment this optional also completes if you have collected all pieces of evidence.
- If you're going for a quick completion, and haven't been having trouble with the combat so far, go for the Blackmail charge. If you're after an easy completion, go for Corruption. If you want your trial to look even vaguely like you're actually in court, go for Bribery.
- Generally each trial consists of three stages. In each you have to repeat the following steps:
- Pick up a piece of evidence from the Prosecutor's Desk.
- Present the Evidence on the desk before the Sphinx.
- Read the instructions.
- Solve the task related to the trial:
- Blackmail: Defeat three waves of enemies.
- Bribery: State your case to the court three times, trying your best to sound like an actual lawyer.
- There are two good choices and two bad choices for each part of your speech. The good dialogue choices start with the following:
- 1st piece of evidence:
- "Esteemed jury" or "There's clearly"
- "It's all about the details" or "Another thing"
- "In conclusion" or "Lastly"
- 2nd piece of evidence:
- "I have many questions" or "I'll set the scene"
- "The defendant represents" or "The defendant claims"
- "At the end of the day" or "You might be wondering"
- 3rd piece of evidence:
- "People of the jury" or "Worthridge thinks"
- "Let's think back" or "Some of the reports"
- "The defendant is many things" or "If you combine"
- Corruption: Execute the correct emote on the lit-up tile at least four times.
- To pass any trial, you must succeed on two of the three stages. Each trial makes you present the evidence you have obtained for it. For each piece of evidence you missed, you will need to make either a Diplomacy check or Bluff check to get Worthridge to contradict himself. If you fail, you must face a mob of jurors, and automatically fail that stage.
- Mobs of jurors also attack you if you fail a stage of the Corruption or Bribery trials. You cannot fail the Blackmail trial if you have the evidence.
- So that the quest does not become impossible to complete, the Corruption trial is impossible to actually lose. If you "fail" a round, you must repeat it until you successfully complete it – even if you failed to present any evidence.
- After completing the trial, you face a bunch of Hidden Hand cultists back in the gallery, before taking the Eye and leaving with your hard-earned loot.
- According to some of the evidence, as well as Vecna and the Hidden Hand, Worthridge has decided to align himself with Kalphan Riak, Aurum member, funder of both Vaunt Arcanotechic and Fathom Endeavours, and overall villain of the Sharn quest line. Barington really knows how to pick his friends.
- The Traveler has disguised himself as a statue in the Gallery, although his cover is rather ruined by both his refusal to surrender his trademark green hat and the fact he keeps sneezing.
