The Marketplace[edit]

If you try to talk to him while at level 3 or lower, he will reply:

  • Nolan Gann: My son was a street performer as well.

If you are at level 4 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Nolan Gann: This was the place... the very place that my boy, Nat Gann performed for the crowds.
  • Nolan Gann: That was before he disappeared in the Devil invasion...
    • You: I am sorry for your loss....
      • Nolan Gann: Oh, it's not only my lost son that's troubling me. My remaining child, Nelle Gann, has never given up searching for her brother—now she's found some sort of archaeologist who says he can find Nat.
      • Nolan Gann: Who knows what misadventures that charlatan is taking my little Nelle on? I would feel better if she had some powerful friends watching her back... say, you look like a capable <class>....
      • Nolan Gann: Would you take employment as Nelle Gann's bodyguard? We Ganns are quite wealthy and can compensate you handsomely. You can take an Airship to the Chronoscope Excavation -- that's where Nelle will be.
        • You: I accept. Your daughter will be safe in my care. (Bestow quest)
        • You: Tell me about your lost son.
          • Nolan Gann: Nat Gann refused to go into the family business. When he was a boy, he'd juggle and cartwheel around Gann manor, simply to make our servants laugh!
          • Nolan Gann: Then he began performing here in the Marketplace for the common crowds! I'm afraid I could not tolerate such a plebian vocation from my son—I banished Nat from my house.
          • Nolan Gann: I was angry at him, but then Nat disappeared in the Devil invasion.
          • Nolan Gann: Oh, I was such a fool! What I wouldn't give to see Nat one more time... to tell him how proud I am of him....
            • You: I am sorry for your loss.... (see above)
            • You: What Devil invasion was that? (see below)
            • You: I shall leave you to your memories, old man. (Walk away)
    • You: What Devil invasion was that?
      • Nolan Gann: Oh, years ago, Devils from the plane of Shavarath attacked Stormreach.
      • Nolan Gann: It was terrible... terrible! No one knew what the Devils were after, but they destroyed large parts of Stormreach to get it. Why, the Marketplace we're standing in was devastated—the merchants have only recently finished rebuilding it.
      • Nolan Gann: And then there were all the lives the Devils took... oh, my poor son, my poor Nat....
        • You: I am sorry for your loss.... (see above)
        • You: I shall leave you to your memories, old man. (Walk away)
    • You: I shall leave you to your memories, old man. (Walk away)

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

  • Nolan Gann: That so called archaeologist is taking my daughter on a fool's errand. Please, take the Airship to the Chronoscope Excavation, and see that Nelle Gann is protected.

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Nolan Gann: My good friend <name>, I have wonderful news!
  • Nolan Gann: I just received a letter from my daughter, Nelle. She's well, and she's been helping the Twelve with some sort of plan to go to Shavarath... I'm not sure I understand that part.
  • Nolan Gann: But Nelle also wrote of how you gallantly saved her from Professor Tremas! I don't think I can ever truly repay you, but here, please take this as a token of gratitude from the Gann family.

After completing the quest and take the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Nolan Gann: You have brought peace to an old man, my friend.
  • Nolan Gann: Nelle hasn't given up searching for her brother, but at least she now has the full force of the Twelve behind her.
