Nil.jpg

Name: Nil

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Bestows Quest(s): Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

Location: Wheloon Prison, random location

Wheloon Prison[edit]

Nil can be found randomly around the prison. She gives you a key to a locked room in Shar Manor, and asks you to retrieve some documents.

Nil: Hmmm, you don't look like you belong here. In fact, if I had to guess, you're working with the magistrates on some important mission. Luckily I don't have to guess. The name's Nil. Let's just say I know things. For instance, I know you're someone who can help me.
  • You: What do you want me to do?
  • Nil: It's simple, but it's going to require a bit of brute force. I've located some some(sic) important Netherese documents. They're well guarded, and let's just say my usual means of obtaining them won't work in this case. I'm going to tell you where to find them. You're going to go in, beat up some people, and bring those documents back to me. At which point you'll be rewarded. Deal?
  • You: Fine, I'll do it. Just tell me where to go.

Detour[edit]

Nil (Monster).jpg

Type: Humanoid (List)

Race: Human (List)

Monster Manual classification: Human

Alignment: True Neutral

Color Type: Orange - Named Enemy

Rare: No

CR:  ♦20Normal ♠30Elite ♦26Epic Normal ♥30Epic Hard

Habitat:

  • Detour — Orange-named <Mercenary Bard>. Can't be killed, only defeated. Thus, don't show up on Monster Manual

Description: "There was a time when The Harpers courted Nil the bard to join our ranks, but she refused on the grounds that "her story did not lead in that direction." It's unfortunate, because she would make a great spy. Her skill for disguises is so unparalleled, she could talk a dragon into giving up it's horde. Nevertheless, Nil's motivations are thus guided by what she deems to be the most interesting path for her story. She is drawn to charismatic or particularly remarkable leaders."

While you fight her, she will narrate the events of the battle as if she was in a story:

  • Nil: 'Tis but a scratch, the bard exclaimed. She wasn't about to let the filthy mongrels foil her mission.
  • Nil: The bard's health was failing her: the pain almost too much to bear. But, the pain of failure would sting more, so she fought on.
  • Nil: Her blood painted the battlefield. It was beginning to look like the bard's opponents would indeed slip away from her.
  • Nil: In an unexpected turn of events, the Bard exclaimed, Stop! Don't kill me, I give up!

After her defeat, when you talk to her she will reply:

  • Nil: I know you don't have much reason to believe me, but I'm on your side. I had to attack, so as not to blow my cover. Unfortunately, my disguise worked a little too well, and not even your friend Bensen recognized me.
  • Nil: I'm the one that sold the information about these mercenaries to the Harpers. You and I have no qualm. I implore you to let me go.
    • You: Very well, go. I can see you pose little threat anyway.
      • Nil: Thanks.
    • You: Do you have any more information for us?
      • Nil: Not much more than you already know. The Netherese are persistent. They're searching far and wide for the other pieces of the Nether Scroll, and they won't give up easily. You didn't hear it from me, but they've taken over Granwell Keep and are using it as a base of operations here in Cormyr. That's about all I know.
        • You: Thanks, and sorry about the trashing.
