Meditation

Description

Your enlightenment allows you to regenerate ki at a faster rate.

  • Target: Self
  • Duration: 30 seconds

Notes

Two times per rest, a monk can meditate to regain ki. Meditation increases the passive ki generation by 7 (up to 10 with Henshin Mystic's Embrace the Void) for 30 seconds. Any action or movement will interrupt this meditation. If your ki remains below your Concentration for the entire duration, this should regain 35 (or up to 50 with Embrace the Void) ki. Note that the bonus Ki Generation is removed the moment Meditation is cancelled; even if it assists in building Ki, this feat does not help you retain it.

In general, Meditation is useful for periods of downtime, such as during quests with long cutscenes, or during periods where players must step away from their keyboard for extended periods of time. All but the lowest level of Monk may restore the 35 Ki this feat grants rather easily, especially with C:Enhanced Ki items and Sun Stance providing easy access to on-hit Ki generation, without forcing progress through a dungeon to grind to a half-minute halt.

Ranged Monks are the main beneficiary of this Feat, as they lack the ability to generate Ki while using Shuriken before level 20, leaving passive Ki Regeneration (and thus by extension Meditation) quite valuable for recharging the powerful Ten Thousand Stars. Even then, briefly switching to Handwraps or a Quarterstaff and getting a few melee hits in with Sun Stance is a much faster way of getting Ki back up unless your build simply can't survive a close-up fight in the current difficulty of the content you're running.

Henshin Mystic's Embrace the Void can add up to three additional Meditation uses (for a total of 5 per rest), while also providing an automatically-refreshing ablative shield while meditating. Generally you really shouldn't be meditating in the middle of combat if at all avoidable, as the amount of temporary hit points granted by this ability is very low (25/50/100 at ranks 1/2/3) and doesn't scale in any way. However, it is occasionally useful to use this ability to assist in waiting out a DoT that might otherwise kill or severely damage you.
