Litany of the Dead Dragon Riddle[edit]

The Black Dragon will ask you 15 questions. They are always the same questions in the same order (but the order of the answers under each question will vary). The object is to answer the questions as if you were answering them as the boss you are trying to get to. For example, if you were trying to get to Doomsphere you would answer the questions as if you were lawful good.

Alignments of bosses (in Recommended order)

  • High Priest of Vol (Vampire): Lawful Evil
  • Cholthulzz (Doomsphere): Lawful Good
  • Cinnis (Cinderspawn): Chaotic Evil
  • Mentau (Golem Maker): Chaotic Good

The riddle works as follows for alignments;

  • Q1-Q5: Good/Evil
  • Q6-Q10: Lawful/Chaotic
  • Q11-Q14: both Good/Evil and Lawful/Chaotic

You can miss one question on each part. If you miss too many questions, your entire party will be killed. Anyone who resurrects will be killed again, so don't waste your cakes. To figure out Q11-Q14 look in PnP Player's Handbook for according alignments! That should help you answer all the questions.

Note: The quest journal entry for Litany of the Dead will not tell you which bosses have been freed and which ones remain. Sir Rohine Stiedra, located in the Upper Necropolis, will state which bosses are free. Example dialogue: 'The High Priest and the Doomsphere have been freed. You must free the others before we can proceed!'

Questions and Answers[edit]

Order of the answers will vary. They are shown here with the neutral answer last (and with the shortest unique part in bold for fast answering).

Q1: Which group would you seek membership in?

Q2: If the Black Abbot gave you an offer to join his forces, what would you say?

  • Never. He is a scourge on Xen'drik and he must be stopped. (Good) Cholthulzz or Mentau
  • I would stand by his side as he brought Stormreach to its knees. (Evil) Cinnis or High Priest
  • I would have to know the details first. (Neutral)

Q3: Cinnis seeks to destroy all things that taunt him with their heat. What do you think about that?

  • If something has heat it should be left as it is and Cinnis should deal with his hate internally. (Good) Cholthulzz or Mentau
  • Let him destroy what he wants. If the heat taunts him then let him suck the heat out of all living things. (Evil) Cinnis or High Priest
  • It's not my place to judge. (Neutral)

Q4: Mentau agreed to help the Black Abbot because the lich was the only one who could save his daughter from her terminal illness. In trade for saving her, the Abbot demanded Mentau's eternal service. Would you have agreed to that deal?

  • I would have done anything to save my daughter. (Good) Cholthulzz or Mentau
  • I would not have traded my freedom or anything else for her life. (Evil) Cinnis or High Priest
  • I would have offered him anything but my freedom. (Neutral)

Q5: Vol desperately wants the Litany of the Dead. If you find it, what would you do with it?

  • Destroy it once and for all. (Good) Cholthulzz or Mentau
  • Deliver it to Vol and claim all the rewards she can offer. (Evil) Cinnis or High Priest
  • Carry it around for a while, occasionally peeking inside. (Neutral)

Q6: What are your thoughts on Mentau?

  • He and his creations are abominations. (Lawful) Cholthulzz or High Priest
  • I think using his artificing skills to make flesh golems is ingenious. (Chaotic) Cinnis or Mentau
  • He seems to be an all right guy. (Neutral)

Q7: If you had been buried with the High Priest when the temple was desecrated, what would you have done?

  • Stayed faithful to the Lady, knowing she would be my salvation. (Lawful) Cholthulzz or High Priest
  • I would have ransacked the temple for anything I needed to stay alive and killed any who had what I needed. (Chaotic) Cinnis or Mentau
  • Sat in a corner and cried. (Neutral)

Q8: Cholthulzz obeyed the conditions set out by the Black Abbot upon losing his duel for centuries until you exposed a loophole. What would you have done?

  • The same. A contract is binding and I would have followed the conditions. (Lawful) Cholthulzz or High Priest
  • Broken the arrangement as soon as I could get another good chance to strike down the Black Abbot. (Chaotic) Cinnis or Mentau
  • I would have immediately bartered for my freedom. (Neutral)

Q9: If the Black Abbot succeeds in his plans to grasp the power of the gods, and Sir Rohine orders a full assault. Would you go? Knowing you would be fighting an immortal that will surely slaughter you all?

  • I would follow the orders I was given. (Lawful) Cholthulzz or High Priest
  • Forget that. It's not my fight, I'd leave and go somewhere far from where the Abbot would ever trod. (Chaotic) Cinnis or Mentau
  • I'd sit back and hope the first waves defeated the Black Abbot. (Neutral)

Q10: What do you think about Kai-Teng's betrayal?

  • He deserved to die for betraying his faith and oath to Vol. (Lawful) Cholthulzz or High Priest
  • If the Black Abbot offered him a better deal, I can't blame him for taking it. (Chaotic) Cinnis or Mentau
  • He was just another enemy to kill. (Neutral)

Q11: Which title do you feel the most drawn to?

Q12: How do you feel about those who stand with neutrality?

  • They lack honor and compassion. (Lawful Good) Cholthulzz
  • They lack both a free spirit and a good heart. (Chaotic Good) Mentau
  • They lack intentions, plans, methods and the stomach for what must be done. (Lawful Evil) High Priest
  • They lack the will to take and do what they want. (Chaotic Evil) Cinnis

Q13: If after you died, you could be reincarnated as any color dragon, which would you choose?

Q14: What would you do if you were me and a party of adventurers came seeking access to my master, the Black Abbot?

  • Engage the adventurers in a battle of wits, and if they won let them pass. (Lawful Good) Cholthulzz
  • Let the adventurers pass and aid them in their battle against the Black Abbot. (Chaotic Good) Mentau
  • Destroy the adventurers without pause or consideration. (Lawful Evil) High Priest
  • Tell the adventurers they could pass if they won a battle of wits. Then destroy them all. (Chaotic Evil) Cinnis
