Land of Lamordia
|
The Land of Lamordia is a wilderness adventure area, added with Update 75's expansion, The Chill of Ravenloft. It is available on heroic (level 8) and legendary (level 36) difficulty.

The domain of Lamordia features the traditional Gothic horror styling of the Ravenloft campaign setting, with a Victorian industrial twist. The questgivers for this area are all located in Ludendorf City Hall, which can be found in the Northwest part of the map. Completing The Body Snatchers from House Jorasco or Eveningstar will deposit players near that quest's entrance within the wilderness, a short walk from the City Hall.

- Defeat The Voice of the Dead
- Defeat Cathode the Electrical Servitor
- Defeat Boris the Patchwork Beast
- Defeat the Ragged Dandy
- Defeat Frost Talon the Owlbear

- Defeat White Fang
- Defeat Vornir Frosthelm (purple-named)
- Defeat the Fangs of Winter (purple-named)
- Defeat Ulf and Wolf (purple-named)
Experiment Y (known as Ulf and Wolf in the XP report) may spawn in a warehouse accessed from a waypoint just Northwest of the town hall; the other two purple-named monsters have a chance to spawn in two caves entered from the eastern side of the map (The Fangs of Winter's Cave is near the entrance to Snowfall and Sunlight, while Vornir Frosthelm's cave is near the entrance to The Wish.)
- Experiment Y hits pretty hard, but doesn't really have any special mechanics to speak of, although to avoid unnecessary complications you may want to either avoid going near the large crates (which spawn Brains in Jars and Crawling Claws when a player stands nearby for five seconds or smashes one) or breaking them with ranged weapons to spawn the monsters early and eliminate them before the fight.
- Vornir Frosthelm's main offensive tactic is to spawn waves of AoE Cold damage circles, which deal pretty nasty damage but can be avoided fairly easily as long as you pay attention to your surroundings. This naturally makes it easier to confront him at range, since this allows you to attack and remain mobile.
- The main challenge involved in confronting the Fangs of Winter is the standard ability of Hydra monsters to regenerate health if their severed heads are not slain in time. As long as you have sufficient DPS to destroy the heads, the battle is comparatively easy, but you may want to bring a Warforged or Undead character who can tank the stacking Poison DoT inflicted by the Hydra's bite.

- I always knew I was destined for greatness. Even as a child, I used my unparalleled intellect to gather a trove of medical knowledge. The narrow-minded dolts in the university looked down on me, simply because of my youth. No matter. I knew that, in time, each and every one of them would have to acknowledge my talent.
- I did so well at university that I was given my own laboratory. Finally, I could run experiments of my own design, without having to answer to short-sighted professors. With my newfound freedom, I began to investigate the most difficult question of them all: What is it that constitutes life?
- What is life? My flesh constructs were the first attempt at an answer. Artificial creatures stitched together from the fabric of living beings, they could do most, if not all, menial tasks. But there was something my servitors lacked - a 'spark.' The deep connection in the mind that is at the heart of all fully conscious beings. Without this spark, one cannot be truly alive.
- I sought to recreate the spark of life with my experiments. And I grew close - closer with each passing day! But I needed a constant supply of material to further my experiments, a constant supply of flesh. So I started hiring body snatchers. A corpse is just the flesh that remains after death. What does it matter who they were while they were alive? Elise understood. That is how I met her.
- Elise was ... vibrant. Even after all she had seen on the streets, she never let the coldness of this world drain her spirit. She was vivacious. The 'spark' personified! And while we disagreed on some matters, she never let her personal scruples interfere with my work. At first, she just brought me bodies. But soon enough, we became much more than business partners.
- My work is, and always will be, everything to me. But Elise - she became a close second. She was my confidant. A willing audience who shared my excitement for my theories, who accepted me without question. So when she fell ill, I ... simply couldn't let her go.
- Elise was wasting away. Nothing within the realm of traditional medicine could save her. For the first time, everything I have learned, all the knowledge I had accumulated, was useless. But I am not one to give up. If I could not prevent my Elise from dying, then I would find a way to bring Elise back to life.
- And so I conceived of the Unbreakable Heart. My first attempt performed the job of a natural heart, pumping blood the required number of times per minute. It even managed to power a dog for a short period of time. But the true spark of life - that was still missing. No matter how hard I tried, a body powered by my Heart remained a mere machine. Then I had an idea. For the first time, the only time, in my life, I would ask for help.
- There is a legend that speaks of a temple deep in the mountains. It grants your fondest wish - if you manage to survive the path that leads to it. Together, Elise and I attempted the journey to this temple once, purely out of curiosity. Eventually the way forward became too difficult, and we turned back, like the rest. But after Elise died, I decided to take the path once again. Armed with new determination, and new inventions. I vowed to make the temple's so-called 'Dark Powers' unlock the secrets of the Unbreakable Heart.
- I made good on my vow. I reached the temple, I spoke my wish aloud, and the Dark Powers granted it. A short time later, I had created the Unbreakable Heart and implanted it into Elise. She was alive once more. Not a moving corpse - she was fully, entirely alive, stronger and more vital than ever! I had created the spark of life. And if I could do it once, surely I could do it again.
- In recent months, Lamordia has been stricken with unseasonably cold weather. Each day brings more snow, and each day the temperature drops a bit more. It has not escaped my notice that this began immediately after I created the Unbreakable Heart. Perhaps the Heart needs to absorb endless energy and heat to keep going? That would explain its glowing light. What will happen when I create more, I wonder?
- Elise's reaction to the Unbreakable Heart was not what I had hoped. I tried to explain it to her - that she is a marvel of science, and my greatest triumph. But when I described how the heart worked, how it absorbed heat, her face paled. She asked whether I planned to make more. I told her, of course I did. How could I not? I would just have to temporarily remove the Heart so I could make copies.
- Elise was silent for a long time. And then she said something shocking - that she was an abomination. She told me she was leaving, that if I truly loved her I would let her go. I told her she was being absurd. Why would anyone choose these whims over scientific advancement? Elise used her newfound strength to knock me out. When I woke up, she was gone.
- The Unbreakable Heart has gone from my greatest success to my greatest torment. Whenever I try to replicate it, it's as if some fog clouds my mind. None of the copies works. I must find Elise and reclaim the original Heart! Yet the Baron continually distracts me with his demands for more servitors. Perhaps I can use his political connections to track her down. It can't be too hard to find a woman with a glowing device in her chest.

- I was a street rat, down on her luck like everyone else. Then I met Viktra, and we got along like a house afire. We had quite the time, until that day - the day she gave me the Unbreakable Heart. Then - well, you could say we had a difference in opinion. I left. Now I'll live forever with this thing in my chest. Even though what I want more than anything is to see it destroyed.
- Ludendorf's a hard town for anybody. The lucky ones get a roof over their heads and a hot meal every day. I didn't get that chance. I grew up hard, and I doubt me mum and dad, rest their souls, would think much of the girl I am today. But that's life. Do your best, and maybe you'll live to see some moments of beauty. Even if most of the time you're down in the muck.
- The first rule of life on the streets is every one for themself. It don't matter how well your mate's doing if you're down to your last tin of sardines. I joined the grave robbers because it was the only way I had to get some coin without breaking my back in the factories. Me and the others - we had an understanding. Stay out of my way, let me do my job, and you got to keep your toes.
- People will tell you they want the bodies for all kinds of reasons. Organs, black magic, things you don't want to know about. I don't care. If I have to dig up old aunt Helga so those university boffins can make a stitch job, that's what I'll do. Money's money, and at the time I didn't have the luxury of sticking to my scruples.
- One day, a body-snatching job brought me somewhere I'd never been. A grand old castle, filled to the brim with machines. There was a note on the door that said to leave the order in the lobby. But it also said to come upstairs to get paid. I got in the lift - imagine having one of them in your house! - and went up to the tower on the top floor. And there she was, tinkering with something wet and red. Viktra Mordenheim.
- So I go inside the lab and come up to Viktra. She's got her hands in someone's chest, and she says 'give me the heart.' Now, I knew she meant the one in the tank nearby but I said 'I need to get to know you first.' And you know what? She laughed. She got the funniest expression on her face, as if no one ever made her laugh before. That's when she looked up. 'Who might you be?' she asked. The rest - well, I guess the rest was fate.
- You meet a lot of people in my line of work, and they all have their own stories. Usually I just ignore them. But with Viktra, I couldn't turn away. Watching her work day and night in that big old castle, I saw all sorts of things, things I never imagined. And she - she wanted to tell me all about it. When she explained her theories, her whole face lit up like it was the most important thing in the world. It was ... dazzling. When I spent time with her, I couldn't help but feel like somehow I made it.
- When I first told Viktra I loved her, I thought she wouldn't say it back. But she did, in her own way. She got real quiet. And then, she went over to her workbench and brought over one of the mechanical hearts she'd been working on. 'See this heart?' she said. Mind you, this thing don't bleed, it's a little cold, and she knows it can't do everything mine does. She puts it in my hand. 'Now. Imagine this is mine,' she says. There's no one else she could ever give it to.
- Living with Viktra, everything changed. I didn't have to struggle anymore. I had a roof over my head, I had as many hot meals as I could eat. She took care of everything. But it didn't last. See, one day I started feeling sick, real sick. A wasting disease, it was. I was slipping away. The worst part was, I knew that without me, Viktra would be all alone again. That was my last thought before I collapsed.
- When I woke up from the coma, everything felt ... new. The laboratory smells, the air I breathed, the sunlight through the window. And I was stronger, even stronger than I was before the disease ran through me. But Viktra, she was different. She had this strange look in her eye when she looked at me. I couldn't place it, at first. But I found out soon enough.
- The thing in my chest was nothing like the old prototypes Viktra was working on before I got sick. This one lived, pumping life into my chest and breath into my lungs. The Unbreakable Heart, she called it. Immortal and glowing. And then I knew what that strange look meant. I wasn't Elise, her lover, any more. I was her experiment.
- I wish I had been happy. I should have been happy. But everything turned to ashes when she told me how the Heart works. This thing, it drains the warmth of the world. The longer it exists, the colder Lamordia gets. And she wants to make more! I knew she'd never destroy her precious creation, so my only choice was to leave. It hurt more than anything. But my love for her wasn't worth the cost.
- Now, I wander this cold wasteland. The Isles of Agony, they call it. Sounds about right. I found an old cabin I can hide in. Whatever poor bloke used to live here must've gotten eaten by the Frost Worms. At first I had hoped Viktra would move on, stop searching for the Unbreakable Heart. But now I know she never will. So here I'll stay. If anyone finds me, they better leave me alone. The fate of Lamordia depends on me being left alone.
Ludendorf Wax Museum[edit]
The Ludendorf Wax Museum, a small subsection of the wilderness a short walk West of the City Hall entrance, is, other than the foyer, largely blocked off from exploration. The Wax Museum map is used as the site of the raid Relentless - outside of the raid itself, this area serves to allow players to access the Wicked Viktranium Experiment Crafting workbench without waiting for the raid timer after a completion.
