Name: Jan Falner

Race: Dwarf

Gender: Male

Bestows Quest(s): The Western Excavation

Affiliation(s): The Free Agents, House Kundarak

Location: Ruins of Threnal, Western excavation site

Ruins of Threnal[edit]

If you try to talk to him while at level 6 or lower, he will reply:

  • Jan Falner: You will have to excuse me, I'm a bit busy right now.

The Western Excavation[edit]

If you are at level 8 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Jan Falner: I see you've signed up with House Deneith already. We're a bit understaffed, but I won't let that get in the way of our business relationship... much. What can I do for you?
  • You: I'm looking for some work.
  • Jan Falner: Let's start you off with something simple. Take these supplies and deliver them to our team inside the excavation. Chief Engineer Derward's leading them, talk to him. Come back when you're done and I'll have some more work for you.
    • You: I can do that for you. (Bestow chain)
      • Jan Falner: I like your attitude. Come back after you get the job done.
    • You: I didn't come all the way here to be your errand boy. Give me some serious work. (Walk away)
      • Jan Falner: With that attitude you might be better off talking to House Deneith. Come back when you recover your common sense.

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

  • Jan Falner: Did you deliver the supplies yet?

Talking to him after delivering the explosives will make him say:

  • Jan Falner: I'm glad to see you in one piece. something's gone awfully wrong.
  • You: What do you mean?
  • Jan Falner: Some of our engineers escaped from the excavation and said that after they blew the tunnel open they were attacked by unknown creatures. Derward stayed behind to make sure everyone made it out, but he himself did not manage to escape. He was one of my best men. I need to organize a search party as soon as possible.
  • You: I'm familiar with the excavation. I can try to rescue your team. (Advance chain)
  • Jan Falner: I might not have a choice but to give you that task. Without Deneith's muscle, we're a bit short on armed personnel. Be very careful in there.

Talking to him after advancing the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

  • Jan Falner: Please hurry. everyone's very worried about Deward's fate.

Talking to him after rescuing Deward will make him say:

  • Jan Falner: I knew I could count on you! Give me ten people like you and I could run this whole operation.
  • You: No problem, got any more work?
  • Jan Falner: I have a difficult task to ask of you. My men refuse to step into the excavation. They're afraid of the horned demons they've started to call Flesh Renders. With good reason, I suppose. I've even heard them tell each other exaggerated rumors about an ice flensing demon called Zelnath. We can take care of the other creatures, but I want you to go in and deal with any demon-nonsense you see so that work can resume.
  • You: Consider it done. (Advance quest)

Talking to him after advancing the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

  • Jan Falner: Did you get a chance to clear the excavation yet? I need to get my men working as soon as possible.

After killing every flesh render in the ruins, he will congratulate you:

  • Jan Falner: Did you get a chance to clear the excavation yet? I need to get my men working as soon as possible.
  • You: Yes, it's been taken care of.

After you finish the Western Excavation arc, he will tell you the following:

  • Jan Falner: I appreciate what you've done for us. It's going to take a while to get our operation going again. Check with Sal Danek at the eastern excavation to see if he's got any work. He's the only Deneith I can stomach talking to these days.

After you finish the Abandoned Excavation arc, he will tell you the following:

  • Jan Falner: I heard about what you did in the southern excavation. We're all very grateful. It's time for Deneith and Kundarak to put their differences aside and start collaborating again.
