When pirates who prefer light blades in battle need armor, this is the kind of item they will put their money on- a lightweight vest of leather or hide that allows plenty of stylish movement in combat.

You may convert your pre-U39 Duelist's Leathers to the U39 version by talking to Euphonia Teles and telling her I have some old gear I'd like to freshen up. This conversion is free using the Conversions of Crystal Cove barter box.
