What to Expect
You enter into a misty forest. A dead body lies beside a wagon with a note that you can read.
- Walking into patches of mist will teleport your character to a random other misty location within the quest. You will also suffer a negative 2 levels.
- Death Ward will stop the level drain; Deathblock has no effect.
- A will-o-wisp will try to lead you to the left of the path to a small graveyard, where you'll promptly be ambushed by numerous other will-o-wisps.
- The number of will-o-wisps that spawn roughly doubles every difficulty level. On elite, they can easily take out your entire party.
- If you decide not to fight the will-o-wisp at the graveyard, they will later spawn at the end fight with the first will-o-wisp (at least on hard and elite).
- You can meet a revenant fighting some wolves, if you indicate that you do not serve Strahd or claim to don't know who Strahd is, you can follow him. He'll lead you to a safe shrine and assist you if you talk to him. However, if you claim to serve Strahd he will attack you and you will lose the Shrine.
- If you grab aggro of the wolves, you can drag the fighter all the way to the end fight.
- To gain his assistance, talk to the revenant after the shrine appears and choose the two options that imply you're going to attack Strahd right away. He will then offer to fight with you.
- Several large packs of wolves are hiding in the forest.
- When you near the gate, a Scarecrow boss attacks. If you go up the path away from the gate, several other scarecrows and scarecrow bosses will also attack.
- You have to defeat all of the scarecrows (and other mobs that spawn at the end fight) to complete the optional and get the end chest. The wolf pack optional, however, is not needed for the chest.
- You can find a Vistani wagon that has lost a wheel. Several Vistani are nearby. You can speak to their Elder for some story information.
- If you want to go for Aggression bonus, you should kill the wolf packs last as the scarecrows getting active at the end of the fight will alter your slayer count and eventually drop your already achieved aggression bonus to naught.
Tips and Misc
Bonus XP
- Aggression bonus: ~63 or more monsters killed +10% Bonus.( ♣69 ♦121 ♥127 ♠133 )
Loot
- Chests: 1
You must complete the Defeat All the Scarecrows optional before clicking on the gate to receive this chest. It is the only chest that drops named loot, and appears near the exit gate (to the west) once the last scarecrow is defeated. Note that you can defeat them after the quest is completed, so do not exit until the chest appears.
- NPC rewards: N/A
