Components:	VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. Certain rare spells, such as Silence Creature, may temporarily disable spells that require verbal components., SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., MaterialMaterial: A material component is one or more physical substances or objects that are annihilated by the spell energies in the casting process. You must have the required items in your inventory. If you run out of the components, the game will not allow you to cast the spell and will instead inform you of what component is missing. The metamagic feat Eschew Materials and some enhancements in Draconic Incarnation can remove this restriction.

Description

Wreaths the caster in hot or cold flames. Any creature striking you in melee takes 1d3+3 damage plus an additional 1 for every caster level up to caster level 15. The Fire version of this spell deals fire damage and reduces the damage the caster takes from cold by half. The cold version of this spell deals cold damage and reduces incoming fire damage by half. The flame from this spell will burn away any webs that attempt to entangle you.

Notes

• Bug: Fire Shield's damage is set at 1d3+10 and does not crit or scale with spell power or wand and scroll mastery.
• This spell when cast brings up a pop up selection, offering Fire Shield (cold) or Fire Shield (fire). You can pull both of these to various places upon your hot bars for faster casting.
• Having any Fire Shield or Energy Sheath spell cast on you will dispel previous effects.
  • Despite being very similar to Shadow Dragon Energy Sheathe (50% Negative Energy Absorb), Death Ward stacks with and can exist alongside Fire Shield.
• Blightcasters may only cast the Cold version of this spell.
