DDO wiki talk:Firefox search plugin

Anybody care to test this out for me? (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)

Hey, that's pretty cool. I think I could make regular use of that. One thing that doesn't seem to work well - 'Category:Weapons' takes me to the right page when I type it in the search bar here on the site, but if I put that string in the search plugin, it gives me a search results page instead of taking me right to the page who's name I just typed in. Just plain 'Weapons' or 'weapons' also takes me to the search results page. Is it just not possible to go directly to a page if the exact page name is typed in? If so, then it's just my misunderstanding of how to use it. Dedridd 08:44, March 22, 2006 (EST)
I'm seriously not sure. I don't even use FireFox - the API is just as confusing to me. I just used this quick little generator thing; however, by my understanding, that shouldn't be happening either way, because wit the &go=Go attribute in the search URL, it attempts to use the page match if there is an exact one - can you search for something and give me the exactly URL it takes you to? (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
It's not a huge deal - you just asked us to test it, and that was what I noticed. :) Using the firefox plugin using 'Weapons' as the search string, I get http://en.ddowiki.ws/?search=Weapons&fulltext=fulltext&sourceid=mozilla-search --Dedridd 14:19, March 22, 2006 (EST)
Think I fixed it - I've uploaded the new version to their service - click the link on this page. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
I'm not noticing any change in the URL the search takes me to, but I'm not sure if just reclicking the install link on their site will update it or not. I'll have to research it more later. Dedridd 14:31, March 22, 2006 (EST)
Clicked to install, said ok, looks like it did nothing. Will give it another shot later. Is it supposed to work under Linux? Tihocan 11:34, March 22, 2006 (EST)
It appears in the search bar - next to the URL bar in most installs? It normally searches google I think, but you can click on the google icon to get a list of the available ones. This was just thrown together using their API - I dunno if it's going to work right at all, I don't even use firefox. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
Ah yes, here it is. Cool :) Any way to include search in categories by default? ;p Tihocan 14:03, March 22, 2006 (EST)
LOL I had forgotten about that - umm 5 seconds - done. Better? Should work from any search system now. Check if from both site search and firefox search. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
Should I re-download the plugin? Otherwise it does not work. Site search does not work either (meaning, categories are not searched by default). I just tried under IE without being logged in, to make sure it had nothing to do with my user preferences. Tihocan 14:40, March 22, 2006 (EST)
Yah, re-click the install link. Also, the cats weren't working for just a sec as I changed some stuff - try it again. DON'T RE_DOWNLOAD I NEED TO FIX SOMETHING EEK! (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
Ctrl-K is the hotkey for bringing up the search engine dialog. The dropdown list in there has several search engines listed, one of which should be DDO wiki after you run the quick little install. Dedridd 13:42, March 22, 2006 (EST)
Yes, should be that easy. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.)
Is the EEK-ness above resolved? Just curious if I should try to redownload again. Dedridd 09:13, March 23, 2006 (EST)

Plugin has the wrong URL[edit]

For some reason the plugin as available on the suggested download link is using the wrong search url. http://en.ddowiki.ws DDO wiki has moved and I am not sure it ever was in the .ws TLD. In any case that URL currently redirects to http://www.find-a-private-investigator.info/ Which is obviously not desirable. I tried to fix the download plugin by editing it but I guess I did it wrong because I cannot get it to work. When I do a normal search from the DDO wiki search box I get, for instance in the above example: http://ddo.enterwiki.net/page/Special:Search?fulltext=Search&search=weapons Any chance the search plugin could be fixed?
