Promotion / Demotion requirement discussion

I revamped the requirements for promotion.. I set a time requirement of six months of regular edits (Not defined, but I mean no gaps of more than 3-4 weeks). Is six months too strict? Should it be perhaps only three or four months. It should certainly not be more than six months. Comments? ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 22:34, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

six months is more then sufficient. Any earlier should be based on their edit history and voted on by the other admins. Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 00:50, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
6 Months with a certain amount of edits. For those > Six months, a majority of other admins, minimum of 3 votes (For, against, as long as 3 vote). Unless, it is a well known forum contributor, I.E. Mr. Cow, or any dev... Except MajMalphunktion... hes crazy... Yawgmoth (ContributionsMessage) 01:25, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
I don't follow the forums that well. I would have no issue promoting a dev after a discussion and perhaps a reduced set of requirements, but other forum contributors I may have issue with giving them special treatment. After all, Shade (Contribs • Message) is/was a fairly well know forum contributor and in retrospect though, I made him follow all of these requirements (short of a nomination / vote on this page that hadn't been thought up yet). I reworded the requirements to be a little more defined, so take another peek.. Posting a poi to admins pages. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 08:52, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

Seems fine. The fact Bureaucrats (and stewards) has lesser requiremetns is a bit broken tho heh.. youll prolly want to review each rank.. edited bearaucrats/stewards.

PS: Tech - I don't seem to have proper Administrator rights. Possibly a side effect of your removing some of my lower groups?

  • eg: I can't access Special:UserRights to change anyones groups. perhaps ddowikivip or superuser grants that access?
Shade (ContributionsMessage) 09:11, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
As you can see here, sysops do not get much ability to change user groups. What exactly are you trying to change? ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 09:49, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

Says they can promote ppl to wikivip, superuser (which ive done before fine) and sysop.

I'm not trying to change anything atm, just wondering why my accounts broken.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 10:56, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
I think I know what you are trying to do now. Just figured it out. You can't self promote yourself into those groups (not sure what the self-modification is set-up here). Only works to promote others. Your account is not broken. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 11:32, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

derp..duhhh. Tech I know how wikis work ,im not trying to do something dumb like that. I tested if I could promote anyone to anything, i cannot as I cant access the page, so yes it is broken. I cant do what the privilages pages says I can. I cant even do what I could when i was just a vip.

Put me back into ddowikivip please, that may fix it.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 11:40, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

Same thing here, my 'change user rights' option or whatever it is called is gone. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 12:27, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

yep.. Putting me back as a vip fixed it, I can access the Special:UserRights page again, tho only to promote users to wikivip..

So yea sysop is not giving any privilages far as promote/demotes goes. Must be limited to bearuacrat/steward for anything but wikivip.

I'll fix ur vipstatus mjol.

Shade (ContributionsMessage) 13:18, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
That did the trick, things are back to normal. Btw it has always been Mjoll, 5 letters ( M J O L L ). by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 14:18, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
It sounds like the proper permissions aren't set properly in the LocalSettings.php file. I'm not sure how it's set up in the file, but this would be a fully functioning setup for admins (not requiring physical membership in the lower ranks) http://www.71ent.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:ListGroupRights As you will see, each user group automatically has all the implied functions of the lesser groups built in. The setup is actually very redundant, but is ideal for what Tech is trying to do. For example, 'Sysops' would only need to be in the group 'sysop' and keep all rights that are inherited in the lower groups. Also, I did this based off of the rights table here: DDO_wiki:ListGroupRights If Xevo or any other admin with server access and authority to do stuff like this wants to compare code, I can provide it via a more secure means than publicly linking or displaying it here. Hope this helps... Ague (ContributionsMessage) 00:14, April 11, 2012 (EDT)
Xevo (Contribs • Message) is currently the only one with access to fix it. There is a table in my sandbox with what I think access should look like. --this edit poorly made from my BlackBerry device. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 00:24, April 11, 2012 (EDT)
Next time you talk to him, point him in the direction of that link and see what he says. Admins being able to take full advantage of their given rights is pretty important. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 00:39, April 11, 2012 (EDT)
I'm working on convincing him to install an extension that will allow our bureaucrats or stewards the ability to modify and fix exactly these kinds of things themselves. I've not done it yet, but I'll send him an email today and get him to fix the sysop promotion privileges. Big Grin ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 08:53, April 11, 2012 (EDT)
