Kobold rogue[edit]

  • In Sewer rescue, facing AC 26: 85 misses, 36 hits (for pierce damage 3,5,1,1, 2,1,1,1,1,2,1,3, 1,1,1, 3,2,3,1, 6,1,2,2,3,1,3, 1,2,1,2,3,1, 3,2,1,1)

Analysis: 36 / 121 = 5.95 / 20 => hits on a 15 => BAB 11

  • In Sewer rescue, attacking AC 26 from behind: 84 misses, 38 hits (for pierce damage 1,2,1,4,1,1,2,2,2, 1,2,4,1, 3,5, 3,1,3, 1,1,1, 2, 3,3, 1, 2,2,1,2,2,2,2, 3,1,2,3,1,1)

Analysis: 38 / 122 = 6.23 / 20 => hits on a 15 => BAB 11 (and attacking from behind does not give an attack bonus to monsters)

  • In Sewer rescue (Tihocan 14:11, April 7, 2006 (EDT)), facing AC 26: 94 misses, 25 hits (for pierce damage 1,3,1,1,2,1,1,1,1,1,1, 2, 1,1,1,1,1, 5,1,2, 1,1,1,1, 2)

Analysis: 25 / 119 = 4.2 / 20 => hits on a 17 => BAB 9 (=> need more experiments to see if it's some randomness in the kobold stats, an artefact of random numbers, or if latest patch has modified their stats)

Kobold[edit]

Before I even start, I need to declare severe headache at the moment. Math may be completely wrong. Please correct if you are more skilled than I.

From the Front

  • 200 attack instances
  • I had AC 15, wearing DR1 shield.

Hits: 0x51, 1x23, 2x20, 3x1, 4x0, 5x0, Missx105

  • Hit ratio: 95/200 (47.5%)
  • Facing AC 15
  • 95/200 = 9.5 / 20 = hits on a 11 or a 12 = BAB 3 or 4
  • Adjusted for DR1, hit is:
  • MEAN - 1.695
  • MODE - 1

From the Front. while running

  • 149 attack instances
  • I had AC 15, wearing DR1 shield.

Hits: 0x26, 1x19, 2x26, 3x2, 4x0, 5x0, Missx76

  • Hit ratio: 73/149 (48.99%)
  • Facing AC ??
  • 73/149 = 9.79 / 20 = hits on a 11 = BAB 4.
  • AC is then 15 at this point in time.
  • Adjusted for DR1, hit is:
  • MEAN - 2.07
  • MODE - 1, 3

From the Front, wielding Crossbow (Ranged Weapon)

  • 100 attack instances
  • I had AC 12

Hits: 0x0 (No DR), 1x44, 2x17, 3x13, 4x1, 5x0, Missx25

  • Hit ratio: 75/100 (75.0%)
  • Facing AC ??
  • 75/100 = 15 / 20 = hits on a 6. We know BAB is 4 (or 3), meaning the AC is 10 (or 9): the penalty for using ranged weapons in melee combat seems to be -2 or -3 (note: it's supposed to be -4).
  • Adjusted for DR0, hit is:
  • MEAN - 1.61
  • MODE - 1

From the Front, wielding Throwing Dagger (Thrown Weapon)

  • 120 attack instances
  • I had AC 23, DR 1

Hits: 0x9, 1x11, 2x8, 3x1, 4x0, 5x0, Missx91

  • Hit ratio: 29/120 (24.17%)
  • Facing AC ??
  • 29/120 = 4.83 / 20 = hits on a 16. We know BAB is 4 (or 3), so our effective AC is 20 (or 19): -3 or -4 penalty for using a thrown weapon in melee.
  • Adjusted for DR1, hit is:
  • MEAN - 2.07
  • MODE - 1, 3

From the Rear (theory is -2 AC)

  • 200 attack instances
  • I had AC 15, wearing DR1 shield.

Hits: 0x61, 1x22, 2x18, 3x2, 4x0, 5x1, Missx96

  • Hit ratio: 104/200 (52.0%)
  • Facing AC ??
  • 104/200 = 10.4 / 20 = hits on a 10 or 11, we know BAB is 4 (or 3), meaning AC is between 13 and 15
  • Adjusted for DR1, hit is:
  • MEAN - 1.606
  • MODE - 1

From the Rear, while running (theory is -2 AC for rear, -4 for moving in combat)

  • 200 attack instances
  • I had AC 15, wearing DR1 shield.

Hits:

0x50, 1x22, 2x38, 3x3, 4x1, 5x0, Missx86

  • Hit ratio: 114/200 (57.0%)
  • Facing AC ??
  • 114/200 = 11.4 / 20 = hits on a 9 or a 10, we know BAB is 4 (or 3), so effective AC is between 12 and 14.
  • Adjusted for DR1, hit is:
  • MEAN - 1.974
  • MODE - 1

I'm not sure what to make of the -3, perhaps a greater sample is needed. But I would think clearly being attacked from rear is showing a greater likelihood of being hit than from front. Rear, keep in mind, is only your back, not your sides. *shrugs* KakarisMaelstrom 21:42, April 27, 2006 (EDT)

Could you specify which Kobold it was? (just to make sure I take the exact same kobold if I want to do more experiments). We need more experiments to really figure out the exact BAB. Tihocan 10:38, May 1, 2006 (EDT)
Sewer rescue. Kobolds throw the gate shut. I'm using the one that spawns to the south and west. The one directly west I kill. BTW, I'm not sure I understand the math, big surprise there. How does this work: "95/200 = 9.5 / 20 = hits on a 11 or a 12 = BAB 3 or 4". Wouldn't you round it to the smallest whole number that hits 10, and subtract that from 20? I'm clueless here, I know :)KakarisMaelstrom 17:07, May 3, 2006 (EDT)
Yes, I know, it's not completely intuitive due to the die being 1 to 20, not 0 to 19. If you hit 9.5 times over 20 rolls, this means it's either 9 or 10 (assuming we're not completley off). Hitting 9 times over 20 rolls means you hit on a 12 (because the 9 upper numbers are 12,13, ..., 20). Hitting 10 times means you hit on a 11 (because the 10 upper numbers are 11, 12, ..., 20).
