A potion is a magic liquid that produces its effect when imbibed. In the D&D 3.5 (PnP version), potions can duplicate the effect of a spell of up to 3rd level. Similar restriction applies in general to DDO. Higher level spell effects are usually available only during special events, as a reward for turning in rare ingredients, or from the DDO Store.

  • Consumable: Potions are consumables, i.e. they can be used only once. Exception: Rare artifacts called Eternal flasks refill magically after a cooldown.
  • Minimum level: Potion use is generally not restricted by a minimum level requirement. Some non-store healing elixirs and spell point elixirs have higher minimum level.
  • Caster level: In alignment with PnP rules, the caster level of the potion is generally the lowest level at which a caster could cast the spell. Higher caster level variants might be available during special events, as a reward for turning in rare ingredients, or from the DDO Store. Artificers receive a bonus to caster level of potions they consume thanks to their class feat Artificer Knowledge.

Ability[edit]

NOTE, for the potions that give an enhancement bonus to an attribute this is the same bonus type as is most commonly found on Equipment, and they do not stack on each other. If you are already wearing a piece of equipment which gives a +4 or more permanent enhancement bonus to an attribute, consuming the same Potion will have no effect at all but you will still lose the potion.
