Chat

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
  • For UI commands in the Options panel (Ctrl+o), see Options panel.

You can use the chat window to talk to other players in the game, but you can also type in commands that either have an effect on the game or give you game information. To distinguish between conversation and a command, commands are always preceded by a "forward slash" (/), followed immediately (no spaces) by the command, and then (like any chat) the command is sent by hitting Enter.

Emotes[edit]

An emote is a sub-category of command that players can type in the chat window to make their character perform an apparent action in the game. Emotes can be performed anytime and anywhere, including during quests. These actions are purely "cosmetic", they are visual only, and (usually!) have no effect on the game, the environment nor on another Character (except to take a short bit of time for your Character to perform) - the action is mimed rather than actually performed. Any nearby Player Characters may see/hear your Character's emote, and their Player(s) may have an actual social reaction to your display - choose your emotes with this in mind. With rare exceptions*, emotes have no effects on Non-Player Characters.

* Some few quests involve characters to use /emotes as part of quest objectives or optionals, such as in the Terminal Delirium mirror. Also, it's not unheard-of for in-game events (Festivals, etc.) to involve certain emotes by design, or for Easter eggs to be triggered by emotes.

Rarely, emotes may be (temporarily) disabled in certain areas by the game Administration, for a variety of reasons.

Below are listed the default emotes currently found in DDO. This list may grow, and occasionally additional emotes may be purchased from the DDO Store, such as for pets. To display a full list of emotes available to your Character, type /emotelist.
