Tips and Misc
- Pulstein Mine, you've been told, holds the secret to the Unbreakable Heart, the miraculous device that managed to truly reanimate Elise - and which Viktra Mordenheim has since been totally unable to reproduce. As Elise is your best shot at defeating the Doctor, you've come to the mine to learn more - but it's immediately apparent from the pools of ooze and human bones that something terrible has happened here.
- The mine's Overseer has perfected a device to track the energy signature of the unique ores Mordenheim used in the creation of the Heart - indeed, he boasts, the device can pinpoint the Heart's location on a map! Unfortunately, the mine has been overrun by a tide of toxic ooze and hostile creatures, and while the Director can safely reach his device, he has been forced to seal off the mine itself - and by extension, the ores he needs to operate the device.
- The Overseer dispatches you to seek out samples of Viktranium and Eliseium, warning you to wait for him to fully disengage any static barriers you encounter by using the nearby Speaking Device before attempting to pass through or risk electrocution.
- You are assaulted by several waves of mutated creatures and Green Slimes as you descend into the mine - and a conversation with the scientist Raina Ulbricht quickly makes it clear that you have been mislead. The creatures infesting the mine are in fact the mine workers, corrupted into their current forms by the very ores the Overseer sent them down to collect - and he has knowingly abandoned any survivors of the attack to their fates. The Overseer sweepingly denies your accusations before you have any chance to make them. It is too late to save poor Raina - she is quickly impaled by her mutated husband - but you may be able to rescue some of the other scientists on your way down.
- The next tunnel opens into a three-way intersection. The Viktranium deposit is to the East, in a highly unstable room - you will need to carefully platform over a pit of acid to reach it safely.
- Another tunnel to the South in this area leads to an optional fight against a Mutated Crusher, which grants an optional chest and allows you to free the two surviving lab workers. A third nearby worker, Dieter, refuses to leave - his work as a field geologist has exposed him to the mine's ores, and although thankfully he's been able to seal himself away, he mutates into another monster before your very eyes.
- Another Mutated Crusher guards the door to the western tunnels, where you can find a deposit of Eliseium (you're going to have to try not to think about exactly how long the exposure takes to set in...) Heading further west leads you to the Lower Lab, where you're ambushed by several more waves of mutated mine workers.
- The treacherous Overseer wastes almost no time in attempting to silence you - after all, you stand in the way of both his reopening the mine and his sole claim to the reward, and Doctor Mordenheim is unlikely to react well to any discovery that he ever lost control in the first place. You must face down both him and his Flesh Golem assistants before you can reach his device.
- Insane the Overseer might have been, but it's hard to deny his inventing skill - once the two ores are implanted, his Heart Locator pins down Elise's location exactly. Your next destination is clear - you must set course for the frozen north of Lamordia, and explore the ominously-named Isles of Agony...
