If you try to talk to him while at level 3 or lower, he will reply:
- Vargus d'Deneith: ????????????????
If you are at level 4 or higher, however, he will reply:
- Vargus d'Deneith: Hello. My name is Vargus d'Deneith, custodian of the Pit.
- You: The Pit?
- Vargus d'Deneith: That's what we call the waste disposal system below the Deneith Foundry. It's a rather complicated system, with many moving parts and processes... in addition to the slimes.
- You: The slimes?
- Vargus d'Deneith: We use slimes as part of the disposal process. Some species eat just about anything, which is very useful to us. However, we have a bit of a problem. There's a den of troglodytes that appears to worship slimes and they're living in the Pit. Their presence is more than a nuisance, you see. They've shut down the entire system.
- You: Let me guess. You need me to go down into the Pit and clean it out?
- Vargus d'Deneith: Exactly! The trogs must be exterminated and the Pit's controls must be reset. There's a specific activation sequence for all the various systems. This manual should explain the procedure.
- You: We shall go at once. (Bestow quest, acquire The Pit Restart Guide)
Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make he say:
- Vargus d'Deneith: The entrance to the Pit is not far from here. Make sure you follow the directions I gave you as it's easy to get lost down there in the darkness.
- You: Down into the Pit I go! (Walk away)
- You: Could you give me another copy of the manual? I can't seem to find mine.
- Vargus d'Deneith: Certainly. Here you go. (Acquire The Pit Restart Guide)
On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:
- Vargus d'Deneith: You're alive!
- Vargus d'Deneith: That is, of course you're alive. What I meant to say is that you were successful, as I always expected!
- Vargus d'Deneith: The Pit is working again and House Deneith thanks you for your assistance.
After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:
- Vargus d'Deneith: The Pit is working again, thanks to you!
- You: Not a problem.
