Yet another map update...[edit]

Free Delera - there's a fourth collectable not on your map, in the corner just north of that last door before the final Soul Lock. LrdSlvrhnd 01:24, January 18, 2012 (EST)

Fixed. by Mjoll 14:06, January 19, 2012 (EST)

Mass Blocking[edit]

I see two deleted spam pages and 37 blocked users, and I am curious as to what that is all about. What am I missing? I'm sure you have a fair justification, and I'm just curious as to what it is. Confused Face ShoeMaker 10:25, February 25, 2012 (EST)

Preemptive strike vs. spambots, the user creation log for February is crawling with them. by Mjoll 10:58, February 25, 2012 (EST)
I figured that was the attempt, but I am curious how you are verifying them as spambots. There are a lot of people that make accounts and never make any edits; they just seem to think they need to log in to see ALL of the information. Is there a list you are going by that says accounts from certain IPs are spambots, or is it all guesswork? ShoeMaker 11:25, February 25, 2012 (EST)
I don't have a list of IPs. Legit wiki visitors should be safe, the accounts I blocked were using the same naming pattern. by Mjoll 12:10, February 25, 2012 (EST)
All of the bans had no edits, and randomized numbers to their names for one thing. I'm constantly looking at the recent list, and look at changes over 500 characters for spambots. (caught 22 of them myself) Of course, edits by "regulars" I don't bother. Mabye on the "Create a New Account" section, you should add "You do not need to register to see all info". (I don't know what it looks like, I haven't seen it in years >.>) Also, I believe only Xevo has access to the IP's of everybody who registers. Yawgmoth 17:21, February 25, 2012 (EST)
All of the sysops have access to whois and ip lookup. I suppose I could revamp the create an account page. It's kind of bland, and I have been doing some massive user-interface editing lately.. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 12:40, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

You guessed it, more mapiness![edit]

The Lords of Dust, this time - there's a trap not on the map, in the room between the last two traps (the southern square room - I believe its location is a mirror image of the last trap, with the box in the SW corner). There also seems to be a trap on the door past the second shrine, which didn't trigger on Normal and two rogue characters couldn't find a box - but there's definitely what appears to be blade slots on the door jamb. Additionally, there's a 13th collectable in the hallway leading to the last room (SW corner, just past the door). EDIT: Actually, running the quest again, the control box for both the sonic trap and the unknown one in the north room were in different places, and the Traps page had the unknown trap's box BEFORE the trap (both runs for me were past it). Yay for variable locations!

Sonic trap box locations: Southeast corner (I *think* that's where it was last night, at least); same wall as trap but around corner before it (between the demon effigy and the lamp)

Unknown trap box locations: Northeast corner; same wall as trap but around corner past it (before the demon effigy); somewhere "right side before trap" → LrdSlvrhnd 15:11, February 29, 2012 (EST)

I'm looking into it, so far I've found the collectable and the sonic trap. I haven't found the blades trap on the door past the second shrine but on epic I saw some fire traps with boxes in the room where the 3rd altar is.

by Mjoll 07:29, March 1, 2012 (EST)

As I said, I'm just guessing it's a blade trap - no box, and it didn't trigger on normal/hard (haven't tried elite), but my rogue senses tingled, and searching led to what *looked* like blade slots.

LrdSlvrhnd 14:46, March 1, 2012 (EST) M puzzle sane asylum.png, I was doing this quest today and encountered an instance where the puzzle was not able to be solved using the current revision, however, the revision that shows the 4 solutions was helpful. Taurolyon 16:24, March 11, 2012 (EDT)

Actually, I think I see where I went wrong... keep up the great work! Taurolyon 16:27, March 11, 2012 (EDT)

Your trick?[edit]

11:30 (Upload log) . . Mjoll (Contribs • Message) uploaded "Sword of Shadow.png" (the original file is still there, let's see if my trick works)
I thought that was my trick? Tongue -- ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 12:27, April 9, 2012 (EDT) Nope :) You can't tell now that it is gone for good but the file was still there after you deleted it, I was able to see it even after refreshing the page a few times and the link to it on the deletion log page was blue. So I replaced the original pic with a 1x1 pixels .png file that I keep around for this purpose and then I deleted it. I've used this method in the past to kill one or two of those pics that kept coming back from the grave and that were first uploaded when Xevo had in place a separate wiki for images. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 12:46, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

Which is exactly what I explained here. Hrmm.. Perhaps I should put it on the DDO_wiki:Deletion_policy page someplace? ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 13:02, April 9, 2012 (EDT)
Apparently trying to delete a file by replacing it with the exact same file doesn't always work. *shrugs*

It could have something to do with how old the file is (uploaded before or after the image wiki was merged with the main wiki) and if the file was ever updated or not (that SoS pic had never been updated).→ by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 13:34, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

It always works unless you didn't re-upload it. Wink ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 14:21, April 9, 2012 (EDT)

In case you don't notice on the other page..[edit]

/* Fix for Shade's misspelling of Mjoll */
$('a[title^="User:Mjol"]').each(function() {
    this.innerHTML = this.innerHTML.replace("User:Mjoll", "User:Mjol");
    this.innerHTML = this.innerHTML.replace("User:Mjol", "User:Mjoll");
    this.title = this.title.replace("User:Mjol (page does not exist)", "User:Mjoll");
    this.href = this.href.replace("/edit/User:Mjol?redlink=1", "/page/User:Mjoll");
})

Above code ⇑ will disguise Shade's (Contribs • Message) (and anyone else that ever does it) misspelling of your name.. -- ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 20:44, April 24, 2012 (EDT)

Thanks Tech, the problem was solved though. Plus I get headaches whenever I see Java code heh. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 07:20, April 25, 2012 (EDT)

New update, new quests, new mapiness![edit]

In Beyond the Rift there's a chest where Mother-of-Thousands spawn, in the room north of the first shrine in the drow area, (the NW corner of it). → LrdSlvrhnd (ContributionsMessage) 02:57, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

Fixed. I've added all the locations I found during beta, she can spawn near any of 3 odd-looking 'altars' if she spawns at all. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 04:37, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

Item enchantments pages....[edit]

-- As copied from Talk:Item enchantments --

There is no page on this wiki that is currently automatically updated. The message to what was referred to was a message posted by Mjoll (Contribs • Message) stating that he was working on the page off-line on his text editor (assuming he uses Notepad++ like the lot of use senior editors) and he was C&P his edits in with no regards for any manual edits made at the time. This was while he was first creating the page and I am uncertain if he considers that process complete and if this any longer applies... I will C&P this message to his talk page as a request for him to come and inform us either way. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 09:55, July 10, 2012 (EDT)
Yes all entries are manually added, there is nothing scripted or automated about it. In a few days I'll start adding the U14 items and because of my 'overwrite all old content with new content' system it's best if I do it alone. And after that I'll update the old items that were changed by U14. I'm so going to have a 'blast' converting spell boost bonuses to spell power bonuses especially since we don't know all the new values yet. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 12:45, July 10, 2012 (EDT)
I'm in the process of deducing the formula used for the change to 'spell power' It has to be some kind of power * level formula.. just need to figure out what the bases are for levels and what the multipliers are. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 12:54, July 10, 2012 (EDT)

Template:Dmg[edit]

Noticed you were on, could use some fresh eyes to look at this because mine are growing slightly tired. Please...

Habreno (ContributionsMessage) 03:43, August 21, 2012 (EDT)

Tech is the main template guy, templates give me headaches. I took a look at what you did and I think you should expand it to catch all damage types (bleed, steam, fracturing, etc), see here for a full list. That might break the template for old items, depending on whether or not you change some switch values, but if the need arises I can go through each of them and convert them to the new template.
P.S. You should compile a list of damage types and subtypes you want to use the template for unless you want to stick to what is already listed on the template page. → by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 04:18, August 21, 2012 (EDT)

AHH!!!! LMAO! The whole reason I made Template:Dmg1 backwards compatible for you was so that you could move Template:Dmg1 to Template:Dmg (deleting / overwriting it in the process) and NOT have to go through a couple hundred items changing the template usage... I'll move it myself later and have my bot go through and change them all back... The Template:Dmg1 page was a prototype / temporary location for it... Thank you for making me laugh. Tongue
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 09:57, August 26, 2012 (EDT)
I know you've made it backwards compatible but that didn't cover pages where there was no template in use, be it Dmg or Dmg1, but direct links, simple long popups or plain text. Someone had to template those pages too so I killed two birds with one stone. Don't use the bot to change from one template to another yet, there are still pages that are lacking templates and I'll lose track of which pages I still have to go through. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 11:16, August 26, 2012 (EDT)

Item: Namespace moving and your Item enchantments project[edit]

I'm moving some stuff to the Item namespace, and both Firebreak (Level 22) and Firebreak (Level 23) are on your Item enchantments project that I know you edit off-wiki...

ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:15, August 23, 2012 (EDT)
Roger, everything should be fine as long as there is a page X redirecting to page Item:X. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 11:06, August 23, 2012 (EDT)

Monster Types[edit]

I noticed you changed "type" field for all the elementals on the monster information project pages to "Elemental". Did U16 change that too? Were there any other monster type/race changes in U16? I'm just trying to figure it out so I can correct the categories and race pages if necessary. I didn't realize the devs had made all these changes til you said something...Confused Face
Susalona (ContributionsMessage) 17:27, November 30, 2012 (EST)

Yes, these are U16 changes. Air elemental, earth elemental, fire elemental and water elemental types were merged into Elemental type.
Arachnid race was changed to Spider race for both spiders that belong to the Vermin and the Magical Beast type. Same thing for the undead spiders from the Demonweb wilderness and raid, those are now Undead/Spider. The only spiders not affected by these changes are Fiendish Spiders and Fiend-Blood Spiders, they continue to be tagged as Magical Beast/Fiendish Spider.→ by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 05:48, December 1, 2012 (EST)

MediaWiki:Anonnotice[edit]

I fixed MediaWiki:Anonnotice so that all of the links that are on MediaWiki:Sitenotice are there without creating an account... This "SHOULD" fix your guildies issues. Big Grin

Eeeek! Well thank god crisis averted!

Disambig page names...[edit]

I know that the policy is starting to get outdated and needs a revision by the administration here on the wiki; however, I would like to direct your attention to the Item Articles section, which states that any words appended to a page name in parenthesis should be lower case. This is further emphasized in the later section NPC/Monster/other game content related articles. I bring this up for the case of the of the monsters named Squall -- Squall (abishai) and Squall (storm giant) would be the proper page names.

This makes of a great discussion since that most of the things that were previously disambig and had a (paren) subtext were items, which of course no longer need the (paren) part since they are in their own namespace now. I intend to move the pages to eliminate as many of these (paren) as reasonably possible and would like to get the opinions of the administration first. Cool Face

ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:53, January 30, 2013 (EST)
Oh no, not the naming policy again, just when I thought I forgot about that one... I went with the unwritten naming policy that was used for the last 6 or more months for other monster pages. But do what you wish, the differences are completely minor, for the monster pages at least. by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 12:37, January 30, 2013 (EST)
Just trying to keep things consistent site wide.
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 13:47, January 30, 2013 (EST)
I retract my original post on the grounds that everyone seems to have been using "Sentence Case" for (Stuff Here) Level or Tier items anyways. I will modify the naming policy to be consistent with the current practice on the wiki. My apologies...

Apologies[edit]

My apologies for the unexpected leave from the game and the wiki more than a year ago but I couldn't stand the grind anymore. And despite my growing dislike towards the grind my addiction to DDO was severe, so I had decided that the best way to get rid of this addiction was to leave abruptly.

I'm currently playing Marvel Heroes and I won't be coming back to DDO but I hope you will enjoy my contributions to the wiki. If someone else wants to continue from where I left - if it hasn't happened yet - feel free to do so, no request for permission is needed.

My best wishes to my guildmates and to the wiki staff, it was a great ride.

- Mjoll of CLAW

  • Hey, thanks for the update. I've adjusted your userrights accordingly for your retirement, and if by some chance you should want to come back at some point, you are more than welcome to have them back. Some of the sections you were working on you should be happy to hear have been taken up by others and are being maintained somewhat. Your maps are still predominant and no-one has seemed to have the interest in taking that over much (although it does appear that the new stuff is showing up somehow). It's a loss to the wiki to see you go, but I entirely understand as I recently took an extended break for similar reasons. I wish you well good sir!
