The Inferno

The Inferno

This is by far the Black Abbot's most devastating special attack. Capable of very quickly killing an entire raid group as it does massive fire damage over time, along with a secondary component that very quickly drains spell points. This attack is identified with NPC chat: "I call forth the inferno!", located in chat box as well as over the Abbot's head. There is also a visible animation of fire around the Abbot shortly before he calls the inferno. Most groups will be watching and shouting when this event occurs, as the group must react within ten seconds to survive the inferno.

Methods to survive inferno:

  1. Create ice islands, using the ice wands located in the water puzzle, and jump onto the island for the duration of the inferno (about 6 seconds: though the graphic will appear to last much longer, it's safe to return after 6 seconds)
  2. A spell absorption item such as: Pale Lavender Ioun Stone, Scarab of Spell Absorption, Mantle of the Worldshaper, Epic Phiarlan Mirror Cloak, etc.
  3. A very high fire resistance, protection from fire, fire shield cold, and fire absorption items will lessen the fire damage. Remove curse spell/potion or break enchantment is required to remove the curse aspect of this event to prevent loss of spell points. If done properly one can then heal through inferno easily.
  4. Dark Monks who are able to walk on water may do so safely out of range of the inferno, returning to combat after it dissipates.
  5. It is possible to jump into the water and swim away from the inferno briefly, jumping to heal yourself via spell or silver flame potion. Though this is not the best method to avoid the inferno, it does work.

Ice Island Tips:

  1. The wand used to create the ice island does not work like normal wands: to trigger the wand it must be equipped and then activated from the hotbar, so have a space ready for it.
  2. The person using the ice wand must be sure to not have the Abbot hard targeted. If his picture is in your target window, the wand will not work.
  3. Make sure the island forms before you jump, as you have ten seconds be sure the island forms. In-game lag can cause you to hit the water before the island appears.
  4. Place the ice island in the north west. This is preferred due to a shrine appearing there after the raid. Most of the dead at the bottom of the water can reach the shrine. This saves casters who have low spell points after the battle from using resources such as spell point potions or scrolls to resurrect the dead.
  5. If you are not going to make it, stay on the platform. If you are going to be hit, or are hit by the inferno stay on the platform or jump back onto the platform if you jumped to the ice island. The reason for this is it is easier to resurrect you from the platform than at the bottom of the water.
  6. Know who has a wand and keep them up. If whoever has a wand dies or is encased it is important to get them up and on the job again. Use boulders to free them, raise dead clickies or scrolls to resurrect them.
