What determines a characters ability to spot/target distant enemies? I have a ranger and a paladin and my paladin can actually see farther and shoot at enemies my ranger can't even approach which is very confusing. --

spot skill has nothing to do with target distance. it is used to detect traps, hidden doors and monsters that are hiding or invisible. if you are having trouble with target distance, check your options panel, set "object draw distance" ultra high, under the graphic section (or maybe advanced graphic).

Listen skill may have something to do with it, but that's mostly a guess. It can't be your graphic config if you see farther with one char and less with the other.
