Talk:Update 29 randomly generated loot

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

It would be nice to have a section on the detailed mechanics of random loot generation. I can see some info in the Lamannia preview threads, but if someone has more detailed information, please put it onto the page.

  • An item can have the following effects: Enhancement bonus, Prefix, Suffix, and Extra.
  • The level of the item (its minimum level) is determined by the level of the quest. Precise formula unknown (e.g., is item minimum level always equal to quest level)?
  • Each effect value is rolled separately, within a range given by the item level. For example, a Strength bonus on a level 20 item can be +7, +8, or +9.
  • There is a chance for Extra Lucky Loot, which increases the range of possible effect values beyond the usual limits. Exact mechanics unknown:
    • Is the Extra Lucky Loot rolled separately for each effect, or once for the whole item?
    • What's the chance for getting Extra Lucky?
    • Is the Extra Lucky effect range just slightly better than the normal range (normal: +7 to +9, extra lucky: +8 to +10)? Or is Extra Lucky always better than the normal range (normal: +7 to +9, extra lucky: +10)?
  • Since effects are rolled independently, the same quest can generate items with vastly differing power (item with weak prefix vs item with extra lucky prefix, extra lucky suffix, and extra lucky extra effect).
  • Augment slots still drop on items. I assume these are generated independently of other effects.
  • Cursed items do not drop anymore.
  • Unclear whether Masterful Craftsmanship items drop.

  • No, the level of an item is not determined by quest level exactly. It's based on the loot level of the chest and that is based on your loot bonuses and the modified quest level. So, if you go into a level 3 quest on hard and there is a +2 loot bonus weekend going on the chest level will be 6 (3(quest base)+1(hard difficulty)+2(loot bonus)). Many of the effects and stats have issues of some kind and are in a state of flux at the moment. So any "hard data" you can ascertain at the moment could change vastly on the next hotfix or patch. Might be best to just wait a bit on this and let it stabilize over the next couple months before we worry too much about getting this info up. Information not visible enough[edit]

Is there a plan to provide a cypher page link under ITEMS on the wiki for the newer RNG loot if someone doesn't happen to have this one bookmarked? Some of the new effect pseudonyms on this page refer only to older effect pseudonyms, rather than the name of thing they actually modify. I'd prefer to be working towards providing info for the common player rather than just editing something that no one sees. Cairnoir (ContribsMessage) 04:27, May 7, 2016 (EDT)

I've added a link on Template:Home/Items; once stuff gets updated, it should appear on the Home screen. We already have a link to the article on the Items page. If you have ideas, where else would be an appropriate place to link the article, don't hesitate to make the edits--Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 07:07, May 7, 2016 (EDT)
