Talk:Monsters by type and race

From DDO wiki

"Note: Some monsters may be listed more than once, because they fit in multiple categories. This is unavoidable." What does that mean? No monster can be more than one type. Is it just referring to the overlap on Evil Outsiders and Lawful/Chaotic Outsiders? Backley 01:20, June 10, 2011 (EDT)

some monsters are actually multiple types, such as Sor'Jek (Lich) for example is a Giant (Race), AND Undead (Type) Yawgmoth 01:58, June 10, 2011 (EDT)
Other Undead Giants (like Giant Skeletons) are only classed as Undead. Are you sure Sor'Jek (Lich) is classed as Giant? Does Giant Bane work on him? Also, if he is the example, why is only his living form listed under Giants on this page? Backley 04:27, June 10, 2011 (EDT)
eh, i think it just refers to Lawful Evil Outsider/Chaotic Evil Outsider section thing. yoko5000 07:09, June 11, 2011 (EDT)

I still believe that all monsters fit into exactly one Type and one Race. The problem is that not all the members of a Race are of the same Type, which this page may assume.

Fiend-Blood Lion is of Race: "Lion", but of Type: "Magical Beast". So, the "Lion race monsters " page doesn't fit entirely/exclusively in the "Animal monsters " (as it now claims). We need a way to specify that some of the members of a Race are in different Types than others. Specifically, the current arrangement shows Fiend-Blood Lions in Animals instead of Magical Beasts on the Monsters by type and race page.

Perhaps we need to split "Lion race monsters" into "Lion race monsters (Animals)" and "Lion race monsters (Magical Beasts)"? Same will apply to other race→type mappings with this problem, I'm sure. Is this an acceptable solution?→ Backley 15:46, June 10, 2011 (EDT)

ye, pretty much every fiendish monsters are like that, some of Arachnid, Trog, Troll, and Kobold, Oozes maybe? alternative (and cheaper) solution would be simply scratching this type→race cat structure and set up monsters by type page and monsters by race page individually... yoko5000 07:09, June 11, 2011 (EDT)
oo, its actually just for fiendish animals. they all become Magical Beast. fiendish trogs remain Reptilian, fiendish trolls remain Giant. yoko5000 09:53, June 11, 2011 (EDT)
Also Phase Spider is Magical Beast instead of the rest of the Arachnid's Vermin. Backley 11:53, June 11, 2011 (EDT)
