Talk:Does the storyline matter?
I keep seeing choices, some in character advancement, and some in quest selection or item choices, between the Silver Flame and some other school. What's the backstory? Does it matter which I pick? If I start down one path, then decide I want to try the other, is there some kind of penalty? For example, I was wandering around in the Necropolis the other day (all the quests are above my level, just looking around), and it seemed like there were two schools and they were somewhat hostile to each other.

With the Necropolis series you can end up with a different item depending which path you take. See this section of the quest rewards page for more information: Unique_quest_rewards#Emerald_Claw_Nugget_and_Silver_Flame_Nugget

Thank you! It looks like the items you get at the end are largely the same. Is there any lasting impact, though? Are there NPCs from the "other side" who won't like you because of the path you chose?
