SonicBlast.png
Name: Sonic Blast
School: Evocation (Sonic)
Level: Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1
Spell Point Cost: 4
Components: SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. This has no gameplay applications in DDO, as all characters can always speak and there are no effects which prevent you from doing so.
Metamagic: Empower, Heighten, Maximize, Quicken
Range: Double range, Small AOE on impact
Target: Foe, Directional, Breakable
Duration: Instant for the damage, 2 to 6 seconds for the daze
Saving Throw: Will save partial
Spell Resistance: No
Cooldown: 1.5 seconds (Sorcerer), 2 seconds (Wizard/Bard)
Description:

Blasts an enemy with loud high-pitched sounds, dealing 1d2+2 sonic damage plus 1d2+2 sonic damage per 2 caster levels. (Maximum sonic damage 5d2+10.) The target must make a successful Will save to avoid being dazed for 2 to 6 seconds, or until they take damage. This spell has double range.

Notes

  • Despite the implication of the spell description that only a single target will be affected, this spell has a spherical area of effect at the point of impact, but has no visual effect indicating this.
  • The spell is able to bend its trajectory somewhat in order to hit moving targets.
  • The spell is an excellent box breaker.
  • There's no save versus the damage.
  • Spell Augmentation does not affect Sonic Blast. Might of the Abishai does.
  • The spell can be used to wake up/pinpoint invisible/hiding opponents.
  • The spell can damage targets and breakables behind walls / doors.
