Burn the Dead

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

A random encounter in The King's Forest. You approach a bonfire with a Cleric of Amaunator standing nearby. When you speak to the cleric, he explains that he is here to burn some corpses before the Drow can arrive and raise them as undead. A Drow Necromancer immediately appears and kills the Cleric, then begins summoning undead. Undead brought near the bonfire catch flame, and if they remain near the bonfire, die after about twenty seconds.

Objectives[edit]

Kill the Drow Necromancer and his undead to complete this objective.

Rewards[edit]

Chest, 2 Commendations: Clerics of the AmaunatorIcon tooltip.pngCommendation: Clerics of Amaunator: This is a valuable item that can be exchanged for goods if brought to a Challenge Trader. This is a token of favor earned by helping the Clerics of Amaunator. You can exchange it in Eveningstar for powerful equipment., and 2250 XP

Encounter[edit]

  • Cleric of Amaunator: I could really use your help if you're not busy. I need to burn these bodies so the Drow Necromancers won't be able to raise them as zombies, or worse. It's bad enough they kill our people, but then they have the gall to desecrate the dead!
  • Cleric of Amaunator: Not only would I be grateful, but you'd be serving all of Amaunator's children and making this land a safer place. You can help yourself to the old equipment I dug up when you're done.
    • You: I can spare some time to help you properly dispose of these bodies.
    • You: Are you crazy? Who knows what danger you're going to attract with this giant bonfire!
      • Cleric of Amaunator: Excuse me? I've been doing fine out here by myself, so if... Wait... Did you hear something?
      • Drow Necromancer: I see you've saved me the trouble of digging them up... You shall be rewarded. (Start encounter)
    • You: I'm sorry to ask, but why are you doing this?
      • Cleric of Amaunator: well, someone had to! The Knights and the Wizards—they believe themselves too important to deal with "petty concerns" as they put it. This concerns them far more than they are willing to believe.
      • Cleric of Amaunator: Last night, a vision came to me from Amaunator. In it, I saw this location: a site of battle from when the Drow first appeared. The Knights hastily buried the bodies of the dead. According to the vision, the Drow will find this location, raise the bodies using foul necromancy, and coordinate an attack against Eveningstar!
      • Cleric of Amaunator: I've been telling everyone to burn the bodies of the dead so that this would not happen, but nobody ever listens! So now I am out here doing it myself.
        • You: I can relate. They never burn the bodies where I'm from, and they always seem to rise from the dead to terrorize the countryside. I'll help.

Bugs[edit]

At least once, instead of undead, the Necromancer summoned CR 0 kobolds. However, they could still be killed to complete the objective.
